Some people get in for one or two hits songs. Rick had great songs spanning two decades. He deserves RRHOF.

I hear you, but I don't think any of those one- or two-hit wonders should be in the RRHOF.

It's like the baseball Hall of Fame letting in some career .250 hitter that had one good season. They don't do that.
I think he should be let in for the album Street Songs alone.

Yes,Rick belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.'Street Songs' is one of the most important funk albums of the 80s.Rick was definitely a funk pioneer and he remained loyal to the funk.Songs like "Mary Jane","Give It To Me Baby",and "SuperFreak" are undisputable punk funk classics. In the early 80s,he helped to rejuvenate the careers of his Motown labelmates the Temptations ("Standing On The Top") and Smokey Robinson ("Ebony Eyes"),helped Teena Marie gain funk credibility and had much success with the Mary Jane Girls.Hell,he even made the non-singing Eddie Murphy sound decent on "Party All The Time",lol.MC Hammer's biggest hit single ("U Can't Touch This") was based on a Rick James sample.

But since when is "pig" a criterion? In that case, a LOT of them shouldn't be in there! lol

Yeah Rick James almost single handedly breathed new life into Motown. That along with his late 70's early to mid 80's albums, fine work with his protégés and career defining album "Street Songs" should be enough to get him in!!!

Grandmaster Flash is also already in the HOF.

eek And no love for Rick James??!??!? Man, this dude has been dead 4-5 years now (Hard to believe). But he should be on the next list into the HOF.

Hell, I think both he and Prince should have been inducted the same year. Sadly though, they'll end up inducting Shitney Houston before they induct someone like Rick James. He didn't crossover enough (which I consider a good thing).

Damn right!

He had 5 Top 40 pop singles and 19 Top 20 hits on the R&B charts, 4 of them being #1 and 6 Top 5 R&B albums

Absolutely. As a pioneer of funk/punk, he belongs. There's a long list of individuals and groups that have been overlooked by the HOF.

Metallica inducted before Motorhead? C'mon.

Absolutely Metallica before Motorhead. There's totally more character to Metallica's songs.

Rick James ALSO SINGLEHANDEDLY took on MTV in the early days for not playing "enough" R&B. He took them to task, saying that there's MORE than just MJ & P. He told them if they weren't gonna play HIM, well at least play someone else's videos!!!!
So for THAT reason AND Street Songs, he MORE THAN DESERVES to be in the RRHOF!!!!

p.s.: Oh yeah- he also gave a young upstart from Mpls. his start on the big road, even though they turned out to be musical rivals.....
cool cool cool
