What if...SW Died at 27?

Imagine this scenario: November 5th 1977 Stevie Wonder dies mysteriously, from an overdose of tylenol or some prescription pill. The world grieves. His last Album was of course his best an arguably one of if not THE best in pop music history. He leaves, hundreds of unreleased songs, like Ribbon in the Sky, Overjoyed, a few others off of the JOURNEY TO THE SECRED LIFE OF PLANTS ALBUM, and of course the many he made between 65-77' we've never heard(and the ones we have heard on youtube). How do you think this would've effected his legacy?
Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

Better than this awful "SW can be an asshole toooo" thread by whoever started this crap..!!

BUt well, it's a mind game and I objected that these kinda things are not popular in this forums.

Anyway, if he had dies at this stage of his life he would have been seen as a legend, an icon, he would be Stevie Jesus Wonder and he would have ended his life with an absolute peak.

But to answer quor question: He never would havr written Ribbon in The Sky, Lately, Master Blaster, Let's Get Serious, Part Time Lover, We Are The World, Ebony & Ivory...

It's one of those fantasy threads which is based on some facts about other pop/rock superstars who died too soon. Blues legend Robert Johnson died at the age of 27, and so did Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain. I believe he's attempting to extrapolate whether Stevie Wonder would still be an icon if he died early on.

I've seen a few threads like this about Prince....usually it's something along the lines of "what if Prince had died in 1987....what would his legacy be like?"

Ribbon was written in like 1968, Part time lover is ok but has a drum machine(ewww!) and the restof those songs(bar master blaster lol) are okay but it's not like they're nothing compared to the stuff he did in the 70's. Only song I'd probably miss is That girl.

But anyway the reason I made this thread was not to extrapolate whether or not Stevie would still be an icon but to ask how big of an icon do you think he would be? Death had the ability to make average/good musicians like Janis Joplin, Kurt Kobain, Tupac and Jim Morrison into legends, and turned great musicians like Hendrix and John Lennon into certified Rock n Roll Martyrs. Imagine what Stevie Wonder-who was the biggest star in music at the time(unlike the rest of the aformentioned stars who had either minimal notoriety, above average fame or who's star had slightly dimmed) and had just made 5 back-2-back classics that redefined pop music. He's already a legend, but HAD he died would he be deified the way Marley, Lennon and Hendrix are?

RIBBON IN THE SKY was written in 1968?

Can anyone back up this information?

And why did he wait 14 years to release it? It'sa masterpiece.

As soon as I read 27, I understood why you were asking, but I still find this thread quite weird, almost like you wanted it to happen.

What if Stevie didn't survived the car accident he had back in '73? That would've been even more tragic than anything. What if Innervisions was his final album? In fact, Higher Ground was the song that woke him from the coma.

I was gonna say something to that effect. Just thank God Stevie is alive at all and that he was able to celebrated for his accomplishments. Otherwise he would've been another "he could've been bigger" story. That would've been a MAJOR loss, are you KIDDING ME? lol

Stevland Morris is a true survivor.

Ha, thanx, but you know it's the truth. I just hate even imagining it... Stevie dead at 23, come on now... that's a scary thought that that almost happened to him. When I first heard about it as a kid I was shocked and yet amazed that he overcame that mishap.

Yeah, and with a masterpiece like Innervisions, just listening to it would've been even more sadder if he were dead at age 23. I just thank God that we still have a music hero like Stevie still around and he didn't have to suffer an unlikely mishap. Man, just thinking about this sends chills up my spine.

Yep, it wasn't his time yet. He's a fighter. I think his music did change after it though it got more spiritual. Songs like "Heaven Is Ten Zillion Lightyears Away" for instance.

I've never seen pics from it...Wow.

I remember reading that when he "woke up" from the coma he was moving his fingers and they had like a small piano there, something like that and he checked to see if he could play still, and yep. He even said if he lost his voice it would've been alright as long as he could still play.

Everything fortunately was fine.

God Bless Stevie Wonder.
