I can see why people like Beyonce never take breaks....

I'm not really an Eminem fan though some of his songs are cool and I owned a couple of his cds, all I keep reading is how he's washed up and his new album sucks. Is this because the man decided to take a break in order to deal with his personal life? I think the music industry is so fickle and if you turn your back for even 6 months people label you as "washed up" or a "has been". I used to think Beyonce should take a break but maybe she shouldn't God forbid....

There's two ways to this:

One, come back and still have the tired old b.s. from previous years (as some have critiqued Eminem on this album especially with that recent review)

Or two, stay there and become something of a nuisance that a hiatus sounds like God send.

Which is the lesser of two evils? wink

Taking a break isn't unforgiveable if what U return with is worth the wait.

i can see what you guys are saying but i think it must be kind of nerve racking for them to take time off. they run the risk of being called "has beens" when they come back which is so insulting. is eminem's new stuff really that different or worse than his earlier stuff?

you keep reading how washed up he is and how his new album sucks because there are eminem haters on here (prob. bcuz he is a white boy doing rap) and most of them have no idea how to classify his talent because they know nothing about the art of hip-hop

beyonce is currently ruling the radio and, yeah , if she takes a break it could hurt her in the long run bcuz people want their flavor of the month

I think when people try to Critism a musician they look to the other cd's, Em change totally the style of his new cd, Lyrically he is a beast, he always will, He makes stories and if u write hip hop lyrics u can say it´s quite difficult to write a story and to rhyme and than u most control the sence of every line to make sence, u dig it? I said in a other Topic that Em have make a fresh start, he is more Pshyco and I like that stuff tho, Personally I like the beats 2.

i think you guys are right. i mean seriously is he worse than soulja boy and young joc? i seriously doubt it. if those so called rappers battled eminem i think he would slaughter them!! are people just used to dumb ass rappers and lyrics so when someone with real skillz comes along they think they suck? i think this might be part of the problem.

Thats exactly what it is. His lyrics and flow are unmatchable to anyone in the game right now. Jesus...just listen to Hello, Beautiful or Deja Vu.....I still havent heard anybody that can rap like that.
Em had to take time off. Encore was him doing too much and that's why it was called it because he knew he needed to have inspiration to write again. Plus he was addicted to painkillers. He says all of this already in his new album. Whos listening?

Real skillz? Excuse me? The bitch doesn't do anything but whine about his mommy, his ex-wife, and rag on other celebrities like some insecure 12 year old. As for "how hard it is to tell a story and make it rhyme and make it make sense?" Horseshit, my friend. Poets have been doing that for hundreds of years before Marshall Mathers came around.

I'll take Dorothy Parker, Arthur Rimbaud, or even Dr. Seuss before I'd take candy boy.

Hey, there's some real depth to stories like Horton Hears a Who and The Lorax, which is more than you can say for a certain rapper's "skillz".

This shows you dont even know the half...

Meow and Booty you guys are the main ones ratting on him when you dont even own an album or even care about his music...yet you care enough to show up to all his topics...even though this is not one you laid yourself in 3 discussions about him ..what does that say about you?

A break for a modern artist isn't a bad thing at all. It gives people a chance to miss you. This CD could be huge, so we'll have to wait and see if it worked for him.

I like Beyonce but she's gonna eventually get burned out if she doesn't take a break! That Ego video was not her best. I liked the song though.

Maybe this is me, but I remember Madonna was constantly working in the early days. Always releasing a single, trying to be in the movies, making the talk show rounds.

Unlike Prince, who constantly worked the music, Madonna constantly worked the publicity machine.

She was probably the first modern celebrity to understand that if you provide for the media rags, they will perpetuate your fame, regardless of your talent.

If Madonna and Stevie release separate albums on the same day, which one would get the most press?

1. Exactly!^

2. But also, an artist who is so overexposed can ruin suffer a career backlash by staying overexposed.

Madonna would get the most press because she enjoys the love & hate business relationship with the news media.

Beyonce needs to take a break because she is just waay too over-exposed at the moment and too much exposure can sometimes result in negative backlash, personal and professional. There are lots of artists who barely ever take breaks (The Rolling Stones for example seem to always be touring; and Prince doesn't seem to know what a break is) and yet you don't see them in commercials almost every 10 minutes like you do with Beyonce. When the celebrity is on every channel, all over the radio, and almost always on the cover of a magazine, it's a little suffocating and extremely annoying IMO. The only things that pop into my head when I see over-exposed celebrities is: 1) How do they enjoy themselves when they always seem to be working?; and, 2) How rich do they want to be? I have no doubt that being rich is quite nice, but being greedy is an ugly thing indeed. Just my twocents

Personally, I think that people are dissing Eminem because they don't see any major growth in his subject matter and maybe they are comparing his new album to his previous albums and the new one just isn't as good. I don't think any celebrity (artist, actor, athelete) is a 'has-been' or 'washed-up' just because they decided to take a break from the spotlight. I think they are these things if they come back from that hiatus with nothing new, amazing, or timeless to offer. Out of all his other parody-like songs, "We Made You" isn't anything amazing to me. I loved songs like "Stan" and "Lose Yourself" and was kinda hoping that he would focus more on songs with a good message than still making songs picking on other celebrities, but that's just my opinion.

In reality, it's not just the music industry that's fickle. The entertainment business as a whole seems to be the most fickle business in the world. Who's dating who; how much weight did she/he gain or lose; what's she/he wearing...celebrities have always been blown up and many times put on pedastals like false gods. Entertainment, in it's many forms, has been pretty unchanged since as far back as the Egyptian times. It's always been a business that revolves around the public's perception of said public figures. Either that person is loved (becomes famous) or hated (becomes infamous).

As a result of reality TV and the internet (thanks Youtube biggrin ), no celebrity nowadays is really a has-been or washed-up because they can just do a reality show, a scandal, or just blog and twitter (aka the unofficial end to celebrity privacy). Thanks to reality TV and the internet, this Andy Warhol quote almost seems like a prediction: "In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes." How right you were, Andy. How right you were. nod
