Robert Christgau: Eminem's new album "Dud of the month--b minus." Eminem, even though he has skills, seems to be going backwards. Aren't artists supposed to go forewards?
"As he told "XXL": "I wanted to go back to Proof's idea of, 'Let's just say the most f*cked up sh*t we can say.'" In other words, this great artist's big concept for his first album since 2004 is a D12 homage. Having slyly categorized it as horrorcore early on, and writing Dr. Dre's most bombastic beats ever, he unrolls the offensive work of art bluenoses have always insisted was there: misogyny up the wazoo, lesbians-only homophobia, libels for a stepdad, murders unnumbered, sexual humiliations previously unknown to hip-hop and more dropped names than Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, who's funnier--and also, uh-oh, more boyish. In a socially redeeming denouement, all of this and more is blamed on the drugs we hope he's kicked, we really do. There's even an inspirational number no more boring than the one about offing Lindsay Lohan. But for the first time in his career Eminem settles for sensationalism straight up, and, worse still, makes you wonder whether he ever truly knew the difference. Em, this is not a Slim Shady album. Slim Shady had a lightness about him." Back to the drawing board Slim. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Then again this is what i mean..the same tired people who dont even explain what they dont like. No description of the songs..no description of the music itself. Its a half parody in itself of the same tired people that talk mess on this website without any given merit once again. I'm glad I enjoy it. 2freaky did u even listen tot he album? Why dont u put your own review up? Straight Jacket Funk Affair

....because..... Because it's the same rants we've already heard before from Em...nothing new to say and no stand out songs. Also Dre's beats just sound tired too and just sounds like hes going through the motions - me thinks his 15 minutes is about up The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Who do you think is better out now? One reason for me to stay a fan is because...nobody is doing it like him. Nobody I know yet at least. Asher Roth trying to copy his style..not working. His group tried to copy his style..didnt work. I don't know any rap artist that is like him at all. He is one of a kind. However...I am tired of hearing about his mom..but if he was rapping about flashy whips and putting credit cards through a girls butt like Nelly, I would definitley stop listening to him. I actually like the album. But, I tend to think music should be about how good is the music, not the lyrics? lol.
Marshall should give up the hate lyrics, that's old school Eminem. Be clever. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Be clever. depends on who the artist is. i think eminem is known more for his lyrics than for his talent as a musician. on the other hand, if i'm listening to a steve vai album (which i wouldn't do, but let's just say, lol), i wouldn't have high expectations for the lyrical content because vai is famous for playing guitar, so anything beyond great guitar playing would be gravy.

As u can see the reviwer did not even say anything about the songs themselves..what stood out and what did not. The reviwer wasnt really listening and paying attention too much. I agree with ya! Em definitely is a one of a kind and I was really wanting him to have his 'comeback' be a strong and different sons to it but unfortunately it just doesnt have it. Maybe on the next CD... The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
