Hey, teller. I just got into these guys music recently, and I must say that they're totally underrated. But the thing is, XTC never had any big hits (at least here in the States) but their staying power is within their fans and critics. I love that "Great Fire" tune from the "Mummur" album. They're definitely worth listening to.

No,I loved XTC and saw them 2x when Andy Partridge Actually Toured cause he doesn't. Excellent Black Sea and Drums and Wires. My Favorite songs Dear God,Generals And Majors and Making Plans For Nigel. Have there albums. LOVE THEM. Supposedly he has Extreme Stage Fright.

XTC is my second favorite band. My wife played "Skylarking" a lot for me when we were first dating, The mood of the album (agitated in a good way) was a bit of a smokescreen for me at first, but I definitely appreciated the strength of the songwriting and melodies. Since they're so thoroughly British, they also appeal to the Anglophile lurking within me. They do what they do exceptionally well. Some of my favourite songs are "Making Plans for Nigel" (we named our son Nigel after that song!), "Respectable Street," "No Thugs in Our House," "All You Pretty Girls," "Beating of Hearts," Another Satellite," The Disappointed," and "Greenman." I feel you on "Great Fire" too, NWF. I'm eager to check out the first two volumes of Andy Partridge's demo series.

I haven't heard their first two albums; can those who have tell me about their good and bad points? I put off getting Prince's first two albums after I started listening to him, too. I get the impression that, similar to "For You" and "Prince," "White Music" and "Go 2" are recordings of XTC's first incarnation, which only slightly resembles the band's true self.

Xtc is a wonderful pop band: great melodies, arrangements and humour too, maybe the best of these last 20 years with Crowded House, Prefab Sprout and The Smiths
I don't know all their albums, (I haven't listened to Skylarking and Mummer yet, their post Nonsuch work either)
English Settlement is definitively a pop masterpiece, Oranges & Lemons too,The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead or The Loving or Scarecrow People or... should have been top 10 singles... Wake Up!
When I think that losers like Oasis or Robbie Williams have sold millions of records mad

IMHO they suck, the sound is terrible, I think that the real Xtc start with Drums & Wire...

It's the truth, dude. XTC never had any chart success. They're not a household name or anything like that. They have a cult following and stuff, but if you ask the average person about XTC, 9 times out of 10, they probably won't know that group. Also, it would depend on whom you're asking. Anyways, isn't Oranges & Lemons a wicked album?

Of XTC, I really love:

Grass
Dear God
That Wave
Here Comes President Kill Again
Greenman
...and of course Poor Skeleton Steps Out wink

XTC is just delicious! I can understand how they might be a little hard to get into for some people--it's a strange sound at first, but SOOO RICH! And I love Andy Partidge's voice.

woot!

i always loved xtc. i was lucky to have seen them in concert back in 1981, at the agora ballroom in atlanta during the black sea tour. before andy partridge's agoraphobia, stagefright, or whatever got the better of him and they stopped touring. they consistantly put out interesting, clever, and fun albums. drums and wires, black sea, and english settlement are as strong a 3 album run as anyone has put out.

shake They still enjoy cult status in the UK, no doubt thanks largely 2 fine albums such as English Settlement, Skylarking & Apple Venus vol.1.

XTC is/was a GREAT band. I've liked their stuff for years, but I have to say my favorite album is Nonesuch. Rarely do I travel without it, so whenever I play it, I'm always mentally sent back to memories of some great vacation.

Added value for an already great CD.

I just saw the video for "Senses Working Overtime". Cool song. I also saw the video for "Dear God" yesterday, which I thought was pretty strange.
