Is her music any good? I really don't know much about her but i know she was popular in the 80's. I came across her Never say never album. Does anyone know if it's any good? Looks like it could be my cuppa!

Melba Moore is GREAT...a very talented lady.She released several albums in the late 70s,but it was her early 80s work that was most successful.She worked with producer Kashif and had a string of popular R&B hits from about 1982-86.'Never Say Never',released in late 1983,is her strongest album from this period,containing three hit singles:

It's pure R&B and yes,this is a good album to start with.The sultry "Livin For Your Love" is my favorite slow jam by Melba Moore.This song was written by LaLa (a popular female songwriter) and produced by Kashif,the same team responsible for Whitney Houston's "You Give Good Love",which came out a year later.I think Melba's song is superior.On the uptempo first single "Keepin My Lover Satisfied",listen closely and you can hear Freddie Jackson all over it,singing background vocals.I think he may have co-written this song,too.

Interestingly,on her next album 'Read My Lips,Melba went in a rock/pop direction.The title track is a straight up rock song,with lots of 80s synths and guitars.Quite a departure for her.

Melba was one of the best R&B singers around in the 80s. I wish someone would PROPERLY reissue "Never Say Never" and "Read My Lips" on CD. What Bluebird Records did to these a couple of years back was a travesity!!!

One of Melba's most underrated albums was her last one on Capital Records in 1990 "Soul Exposed". Some of her best recordings can be found here. There is a song "Crying In The Night", which features some stunning backgroud vocals from Lisa Fischer. And there are a couple of tracks "Do You Really Want My Love" and "Too Many Lovers", that feature the late, great Gwen Guthrie sounding like an angel.

Yes, they were very badly mastered from vinyl. Sounded as if someone did it on their home computer.

Yes, "Soul Exposed" is the CD that features "Lift Every Voice And Sing".

Soul..Do you remember her version of "You Stepped Into My Life"? Great cover.

I saw her on TV a few years ago and never knew she went thru so many hardships for awhile. She supposedly got ripped off by one of her managers and became bankrupt, living on food stamps, and almost homeless.

She went some hard times in the early 90s.She divorced her husband,who was also her manager.He ripped her off for many years.She was completely broke.Things were so bad that she had to go on welfare and get food stamps.It was a sad situation,but she survived it.

That happens quite alot with producers, as far back as the 70s.

Using the same rhythm track but adding or subtracting certain elements. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Teddy Riley are notorious for it
