Almost all of his films feature black couples prominently in a positive way, even if that's not the focus of the film. Malcolm X, Jungle Love, School Daze, all have loving black couples in them. JackieBlue said: SCNDLS said: Why ya'll saying that? There were lots of romantic movies in the late 90s starring black folks. The Best Man, Love Jones, HavPlenty, Love & Basketball, Soul Food, Two Can Play that Game, The Brothers, All them Terry McMillan movies. When's the last time Denzel's been in a strictly romantic movie with a sista EVER though? To be more specific, the idea is that a major film with a major star won’t or has yet to truly commit to it with possibly one or two exceptions. All the films you’ve mentioned were not big box office grossers. Say hundred million plus. We can see Tom Cruise or Brad with anyone, why not Will or Denzel? The closest Will got was his own wife in Ali. Denzel had Sanaa Lathan (in more ways than one ) but on film in Out of Time. Neither grossed over 100 mil and without giving the story away Sanaa wasn’t the best character. More often than not, for a big film with a big star they want the love interest to be ‘other’ especially if there’s going to be a love scene. If she’s just a wife/girlfriend in the background they’ll cast Regina King or Kimberly Elise. Now that Jamie’s star has risen will we see him rolling in bed with [black actress]? Even Denzel said he doesn’t get offered many roles for romance or with love scenes. Will knows if they cast Eva or Rosario he gets a love scene. Seven Pounds was his first and that was mild. In some cases the scenes were filmed and later cut out or the characters were desexualized. How is Shaft not going to have a love scene? It's even worse for Asian actors. When was the last time you saw two Asian actors in a love scene on film other than perhaps Crouching Tiger? There may be occasional exceptions but the casting and how they think the audience will perceive certain characters and interactions is carefully thought out, even if it's wrong. Ok, but damn - how many white-led romantic films hit 100 milly? Not many. So to ask that of a Black-led romantic film is asking WAAAAAY too much. nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

Ok, but damn - how many white-led romantic films hit 100 milly? Not many. So to ask that of a Black-led romantic film is asking WAAAAAY too much. I wasn't necessary limiting it to romantic films but it's most apparent in a romantic angle in big films. It is mostly unspoken but understood that there is a reluctance to show black actors in loving romantic/sexual relationships with other black actors in bigger budgeted films. And not that sex scenes are always necessary but the reluctance is between two black actors in big films or even directly opposite one another in general ala buddy movies. The Bad Boys films would be an exception. They already think Will and Denzel are the only ones who can carry a movie. Two black actors? A love story? They're not ready to try for the numbers they want. They will more than likely be partnered with a non-black actor. They can either say I won't do it and not do the film, accept a rewrite and keep it moving, take roles where this is not an issue or work in smaller films or indies. Benjamin Bratt purposely casted opposite Halle in Catwoman. (Actors of Latin descent are seen as acceptable to both white and black audiences therefore, offending no one.) Her minute love scene with Gary Dourdan is for the most part off-camera in A Perfect Murder. Blade was practically neutered. The closest we got was the blood sucking scene with N’Bushe Wright who unfortunately didn’t even appear in the sequels. Blade was supposed to have a romance in the franchise and Goyer wrote it out. If there is a scene, they love to do the fade to black and then we just see them in the morning. Or the stable married couple who have little interaction with each other Reign on Me, Pursuit of Happyness. This is not my opinion but it does seem to be on the money. Blair Underwood, Will, Wesley and Samuel, writers who are trying to get their work produced by major studios have all commented on this. Some don't see it as a problem. And maybe it's not. Others want to see different images projected: fully fleshed out romantic relationships/loving scenes two black/Asian etc. actors because it makes the characters whole, not one or two dimensional. They don't feel they should have to compromise or edit their material for the masses. This is not an issue for James Bond or Mission Impossible’s Ethan Hunt. For women it’s worse so I don't think it's as easy to say Halle just won't do it. Whatever movies she makes she is sorta of damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t and there are white actresses fighting for good roles too and compromising in other ways. Some wouldn't be working as much if they didn't step outside the box. Others tend to do the same type of roles because that's what they're offered. You play a lawyer or a dumb blonde in a successful movie, you keep getting offered a lawyer or a dumb blonde 20 times over in other movies. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

They’re actors and it is a network and show geared toward men. She knows what they like and she knows what Jamie’s been sweating her about so she gave it to them/him. I think the crotch grabbing is a bit much but it’s cable and maybe that’s passé nowadays? I've seen the same in music videos at 3:00 in the afternoon. As for her child’s father? Do we even know if they’re still together as a couple? He’s definitely around for Nahla but maybe they’re not even together. If they are they could be more free than we know. JackieBlue said: I wasn't necessary limiting it to romantic films but it's most apparent in a romantic angle in big films... The truth is that we don't comprise a big enough of a target market for big named actors/actresses to f*ck around with their careers like that. People like Will Smith know how the game is played and they have to play it in order to make the money and get the roles that they do. Love Jones was a great movie. I own it. It was a true representation of black love and I'm glad it got made. The honest truth is that everyone else wants to see racial stereotypes in movies and that's what they pay for. Look at Halle's personal life - she's dated mostly brothas. Will - married to a sista. Denzel - married to a sista. Their real lives reflect their preferences. On screen, its a different story. People don't want the truth. They want a fantasy. They want a stereotype. People will pay for the illusion, so Hollywood gives it to them.
