Did he have an excuse for Milla Jovovich?

Director Spike Lee gave Denzel THIS explaination: The character is release from prison for one week only. Getting sex from any woman will do if you're fresh out of prison!

Spike Short Lee can sit down.

According to Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson:

"ABUSIVE PIMP!"

One day I was getting out of my car when I saw this beautiful brunette coming towards me. She was walking her Afghan hound She was beautiful. She had to walk right by me and I stood there and savored the view.

I said, "Hi, I'm your neighbor. My name is Thomas Henderson. I'm with the Dallas Cowboys." She smiled, but only a little, and kept walking. She was nice but I didn't impress her.

Normally, I was a little shy about approaching white women but this woman was so pretty, I couldn't help myself.

A few days later, I saw her again, walking her dog. I asked her, what's your name? She replied, Christie Blue.

Suddenly a white van made the turn into the parking lot across the street. A look of horror crossed her face. "Oh God," she muttered.

A black dude (Charles) got out of the van. I'd been on the street long enough to know without a doubt that this was his woman. He glared at me.

Later, I came out to get something out of my trunk when I saw her running. Her boyfriend was chasing her. He caught her and I watched him grab her by the hair and drag her back towards their place.

Being around pimps and hustlers all my life I clued right in to what was happening. She was his hooker.

Two days later I saw her passing in her pretty Mercedes and I flagged her down. She was frightened talking to me, looking straight ahead, not making eye contact. I said, "Hey Christie, I saw what happened the other day."

She said, "Yeah, he's crazy and he's jealous." She seemed like a desperate woman. But my lord was she beautiful. Drop dead gorgeous.

I looked in her eyes and said, "You know I wouldn't treat you that way." It was the best I could do. I said, could we have lunch or dinner one day? She said, "no way!" but I knew she liked me.

About halfway into the season she finally agreed to have lunch with me on the low. We went to a four-star hotel. I enjoyed spending money on her. Over conversation I told her, I think I know what you do. She replied, "What do you think I do?"

"I think you're a high class call girl or something like that."

She wouldn't cop to it and then I asked her. You want to get away from your boyfriend don't you? "Yeah, but he'll hurt me."

Unfortunately, Christie couldn't make the move. I continued to see her around the complex and we'd chat and keep an eye out for the white van. This went on for six weeks.

One day, her mouth bloody, two black eyes, her ribs cracked, Christie was pounding on my door. She came in and her boyfriend was close behind. I stood in the doorway and said, "Charles, look here man, what's happening?"

He said, "This ain't none of your business."

We squared off hand-to-hand in my doorway. I told him, "Look, man, it's best you leave my house. This is my fucking house, and she is in my house right now. I slammed the door in his face.

But this thing wouldn't be over until I settled it one way or another. I walked back out to the street where he was. I raged at him, "you don't come over here fucking with me and my friends. As a matter of fact you should move your shit out of her house because this woman don't want you no more. Come fuck with me and I'm going to beat you down, you woman beating c**ksucker." "She's my woman now!" He backed down.

I went back to my apartment and took Christie to the hospital.

When she was released, I brought her back to my apartment for a safe haven.

Christie and I developed a wonderful relationship, an understanding. She continued doing what she was doing. I often had to get up out of bed at three or four o'clock in the morning to let a "john" come over, she was so beautiful, so voluptuous that she was charging a thousand per night and this was in the 80's.

Christie Blue became my best kind of friend. I had pulled her out of something that she didn't want to get back into (an abusive relationship).

We made love like tigers and for a long time she was my woman. Sometimes she'd call over one of her beautiful blonde friends and they would teach me something new, turn me out.

But more than that, we could tell each other anything.

This is the third time Halle has kissed a random celebrity. First it was Adrian Brody, then it was Fred Durst (in that video), now this... lol

1. Adrian kissed her and caught her by surprise

2. Kissing Fred Durst was work related

3. She tryna maintain her rep with the brothers cuz she knew she would never touch another one again after whoring ass Eric Benet. Yep, he ruined her on black men.

What about the recent Dreamgirls ?... Though it's a sort of musical it seemed pretty major to me, and it contains deep & intenses relationship-acting by Jennifer Hudson who won an oscar for that fine work of art.

Here's just a snippet of what I was able to find on U-Tube. Nice soundtrack in addition to the movie too: Lauren Hill, Maxwell, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Cassandra Wilson...

Yeah, "Rush Over" originally appears on Marcus Miller's album "Tales", with Me'Shell as guest-vocalist :

C'mon, Halle's been "The Rich Man's Wife" for about 10 years strong, now... rolleyes

That's no excuse (even if her husband is white).

1. Terrence Howard's wife is white and he can still be a leading man with a black woman in any movie.

2. Wesley Snipes fancies Asian women and he can still be a leading man with a black, white, & latina woman.

I believe it all comes down to the casting director for wanting Halle to have a black leading man again or not.

First, that's her baby daddy NOT her husband. Second, Terrance is divorced and ain't an A list actor so it's only black folks interested in seeing that fool and the number dwindled considerable IMO after Hustle & Flow. Wesley often produced his own movies and despite his personal choices casted many a sista opposite him. Halle is an Oscar winning most recognizable black female star on the planet. So best believe she has MUCH say in who her leading man is.

Spike Lee should do one with two random Black actors. I mean white hollywerid do it all the time. Why is it so hard for there to be two leads falling in love like a Titanic or The Notebook. Tyler Perry also could do this instead of cooning and jiving.

I can't think of a last Black romance Classic. Some will say Love and Basketball and i say ugh lol

It'll happen someday. I don't think I want Spike to do it though. And I definitely don't want Tyler Perry to do it. lol

Very True. I mean I been waiting for Spike short Lee to do A Black classic romance for a while now, and it's not happening. Both Denzel and Halle have the power yet no. They said something about it being chessy confused

Spike's first theatrical flick was on romance - "She's Gotta Have It". Then he did "Mo' Betta Blues."

Almost all of his films feature black couples prominently in a positive way, even if that's not the focus of the film. Malcolm X, Jungle Love, School Daze, all have loving black couples in them.

There is a Hollywood belief that two black actors in a romance will not bring the desired box office numbers. So they try to keep it 'open' and cast a non-black opposite. Those that have depicted black-on-black romance have been smaller films. And those with bigger budgets or bigger actors have little to no romantic interaction or shared screen time. A director may do it but a studio will be reluctant to back it.
[Edited 5/31/09 21:23pm]

We'll that explain Hitch. Will Smith is the biggest movie star he can def make it happen, There more to it. Funny thing is Spike was calling out Tyler saying he keeps on making these wack black flicks when he can be making real ones. I say Spike is a hater lol.

It more of the fact of Black (women of color) actress not getting these roles and being replace with non-black women .

It's like watching 106 and Park and seeing Rocsi host i could care less but why not a Black women do the job it is B.E.T or as the boondocks would say Evil TV lol
[Edited 5/31/09 21:45pm]

Spike can't do EVERYTHANG. Damn! lol And I'm satisfied that he at least attempts to interject and portray black on black love in a POSITIVE way to some degree in his movies which is a lot more than any other director.

No I mean Romance as in Two Black leads only! The whole classic feel to it. Spike has yet to do this. I want the Chick-Flick lol I want to cry, Laugh, watch it over and over again kind of film.

My question to these black directors is this so hard? Find some Black romance Novel and make it into a flick. Simple and Easy.

Well, Mahogany and Lady Sings The Blues fall under that category.

That movie was on earlier today. I had read the book long before so when the movie came out I was like huh? That was before I knew the deal but it always kinda bothered me that they would play it that far and then do nothing. Why bother? They were pretty faithful to the book up to that point so it was a glaring omission.

To be more specific, the idea is that a major film with a major star won’t or has yet to truly commit to it with possibly one or two exceptions.

All the films you’ve mentioned were not big box office grossers. Say hundred million plus.

We can see Tom Cruise or Brad with anyone, why not Will or Denzel?

The closest Will got was his own wife in Ali. Denzel had Sanaa Lathan (in more ways than one razz ) but on film in Out of Time. Neither grossed over 100 mil and without giving the story away Sanaa wasn’t the best character.

More often than not, for a big film with a big star they want the love interest to be ‘other’ especially if there’s going to be a love scene. If she’s just a wife/girlfriend in the background they’ll cast Regina King or Kimberly Elise. Now that Jamie’s star has risen will we see him rolling in bed with [black actress]? shrug Even Denzel said he doesn’t get offered many roles for romance or with love scenes. Will knows if they cast Eva or Rosario he gets a love scene. Seven Pounds was his first and that was mild. In some cases the scenes were filmed and later cut out or the characters were desexualized. How is Shaft not going to have a love scene?

It's even worse for Asian actors. When was the last time you saw two Asian actors in a love scene on film other than perhaps Crouching Tiger?

There may be occasional exceptions but the casting and how they think the audience will perceive certain characters and interactions is carefully thought out, even if it's wrong.

Within the context of $100 million grossing films, you're absolutely right. But I blame both the industry AND black folks' lack of support for that. Any of the movies I listed above were on the same level if not better than the ridiculous romantic comedies out today featuring white actors that gross huge numbers. It makes no sense. But hey I can't talk I RARELY go to the movies and when I do it's to see artie, indie films definitely not anything that's a top grossing film. shrug
