Songs from your childhood

Which songs cause you to flashback to your childhood?
Are they fond or not so fond memories? What songs remind you of school, playing outside, taking a trip, hanging with friends, being with family, or other early memories?

Once You Get Started - Rufus & Chaka Khan
Time - Culture Club (flashback to graduating from 5th grade)
Funkytown - Lipps Inc. (church picnic)
It Seems To Hang On - Ashford and Simpson
Cold Blooded - Rick James (hanging out with my mom's friend and her son)
Love Hangover - Diana Ross
That's the Way of the World (album) - Earth Wind & Fire
Too Much Heaven, Night Fever, More Than A Woman - Bee Gees
Whodunit - Tavares (playing parents music collection during the summer)
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

The first song I remember liking was The Hues Corporation "Rock The Boat". That was 1974 and I was 2. My mother said I have loved music since I was 6 months old. She said I cried as she walked by the music department in a Kroger department store.

Other songs that bring back fond memories are:

Just The Way You Are - Billy Joel
I Wanna Be Your Lover - Prince
Ring My Bell - Anita Ward

My absolute fave songs as a little one were and give me great memories (and the first two they're much older songs but they were re-released over here)

Nina Simone - My Baby Cares For Me
Jackie Wilson - Reet Petite
The Bangels - Eternal Flame
Michael Jackson - Bad

All these songs remind me of loving music as a kid.

Great lists by the way,

Has anyone ever seen the video for the Nina Simone song? Had me facinated as a kid. (three years old)

Shortly after seeing this video I started playing the piano myself.

Hi, Amber Dee. wave

These tracks take me back -- very often to riding around with my dad, or trips across the country -- every single time.

"You Are My Starship" -- Norman Connors
"Sexual Healing" -- Marvin Gaye
"Benny and the Jets" and "Your Song" -- Elton John
"Rise" -- Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass

Hey Righteous C! :hello: lol Need to come up with a shorter nickname maybe.

Feels So Good, Rise, and You Are My Starship are good ones, definitely can connect those to childhood.

Here's a few more:

Little Red Corvette & Erotic City - Prince (the latter was one of those blatant dirty songs that you would sing outloud knowing that you shouldn't, at least around adults)

You Light Up My Life - Debby Boone (I know it's cheezy, but it meant something back then. I think my grandma made something for me with that title)

Lowdown - Boz Scaggs - reminds me of going around the city with dad

For Ottensen: I've Got to Use My Imagination & Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me - Gladys Knight & The Pips (I was only 1 or 2. Mom has the Buddha records, altho I don't know if those singles were on that label. lol)

I Feel For You - Chaka Khan (puts me in middle school)

"Tired Of Being Alone" by Al Green
"Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)" by Aretha Franklin

Those two songs were played all the time in my household. My mother had those albums.Takes me back to my childhood.

"Livin For The City" by Stevie Wonder spooked me out! The haunting synthesizers scared the hell out of me (lol).I was actually AFRAID of that song.

"Another One Bites the Dust" -- Queen

I was at an event tonight and the band kicked into "Another One Bites the Dust" for a few measures to just get loose and warm up. A woman behind me started to sing along and asked the guy beside her if he knew that song. He obviously didn't but tried to play it off by saying,

"Yeah, I know it's by a jazz artist, but I forget who..."

I had to turn around and go whofarted .

I wanted to really, really badly. But I was a guest of a good friend at the event, and I didn't want to act up and embarrass her among her colleagues and potential clients.

I merely said, "I feel so old right now," laughed and turned back around.

See now, I would've barged in the convo and said "Actually, it's by QUEEN, a ROCK group....you didn't know that?!"

the music snob in me would've shown out lol
