I blame that on everyone's being depressed in the 90's

Thanks for posting the YOUTUBES!!!

I dance to all of these songs, baby.

There was a remake of "Flashdance" by Louis Gaston pres. Digital Offspring that I LOVE. I dare say it's better than the original. The original extended mix of it is near perfect. I'd post it, but it's not on YT.

I love a lot of those songs, especially "Time (Clock of the Heart)," "Beat It," "Too Shy," and "Overkill." 1983 is the first year where I can remember the music rather vividly (I was 5).

Two things to add:

Interesting to see which tracks still sound relevant and which artists are still around.

Colin Hay of Men at Work commented that he now refers to Overkill fondly as "that goat song" due to an incident where a fan asked him if he will play "that goat song". Perplexed Colin replied "I don't have any songs about goats" and the fan replied "yeah you do. That one that goes 'goats appear and fade away'."

Def Lepard, Sergio Mendes, Styx and Men at Work are the only ones not in my I-Pod.

How can you not have Overkill on your ipod - to me its one of the quintessential songs of the era, and Men At Work's strongest track.

I love Bowie's Let's Dance and good 2 c Prince's Little Red Corvette at #8. Did the song go higher or it peaked at #8?

"Little Red Corvette" is one of Prince's best-known songs, and a defining point in his rise to superstar status. The song was his biggest hit at the time, and his first to reach top-10 status in the U.S., peaking at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It was also his first single to perform better on the pop chart than the R&B chart, due to the pop/rock format of the song.
The song combines a drum machine beat and slow synth buildup for the verses and a full rock chorus. Backing vocals were done by Lisa Coleman and the classic guitar solo was played by Dez Dickerson. In the song, Prince narrates a one-night stand with a beautiful but promiscuous woman (the "Little Red Corvette" of the title); although he enjoys the experience, he urges her to "slow down" and "find a love that's gonna last" before she destroys herself. In addition to the title, he uses several other automobile metaphors, for example comparing their lovemaking to a ride in a limousine. The term "Little Red Corvette" has also been suspected to refer to a woman's vagina or clitoris, due mostly to the lyric, "I'm gonna try to tame your little red love machine."[citation needed]
A 12" dance remix of the song was released to accompany the single, and it continues where the album version fades out. The US single was originally released with the album track "All The Critics Love U In New York" as the B-side, while in the UK two separate single releases had it backed with "Lady Cab Driver" or "Horny Toad". Separate UK 12" releases had the song paired with "Automatic" and "International Lover," or "Horny Toad" and "D.M.S.R.". Later, it was a double A-side with "1999.

Oh the pain... lol. I like that it was a darker more brooding track than most of their stuff.

But each to their own.

Wow,I like almost every song on that chart. It's amazing how much "quality" pop music we had back then, compared to now.1983 was truly one of the greatest years for pop music.

1983 was a hell of a year. Both the R&B and the pop charts were great.

And I'm sure if you found the R&B chart for that same period, the majority of it would be uptempo also. Why do you think I've been so damn pissed with music since the 1990s? As time progressed from the early part of the 1900s, it took forever and people had to fight like hell to get uptempo rhythmic music popular and on the air. And then the 1990s came along and slowed it all back down again. The motherfuckers went backwards instead of forwards. As you see, I grew up in a party era and I refuse to become dull just because everyone else did. Oh Lord, don't get me started or I'll be done got my damn blood pressure up thinking about these dull asses. lol
