Marvin Gaye - Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away) ...
One of my Marvin Favorites -- and I always dug James Gadson's drums on this classic cut.....never quite understood why the title is like that, though... ... [Edited 5/29/09 9:51am] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Yes! (waving an unmanicured hand in the air) This is another one of my favorites. The message you are about to hear are not meant for transmission. Should ONLY be accessed in the privacy of your mind. Words are so intense so if you dare to listen.Take off your clothes and meet me between the lines.

Probably the most overlooked cut on the album.

I wouldn't necessarilly say that. The entire album still gets lots of radio airplay. This album is one of the few where radio played every track...even now. This song is a Quiet Storm classic for sure. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

This song is a Quiet Storm classic for sure. I need to get with some of the radio stations you listen to. The only tracks on that album that I hear getting consistent airplay are 'Distant Lover', 'Let's Get It On' and occasionally I might hear 'Come Get To This' or 'Just To Keep You Satisfied'.

When Myke Julius was on the air doing the quiet storm in Dallas and in LA, he played it occasionally. Now, I will admit, over the years I haven't heard it as much. However, I do vividly remember them playing it all of the time in the 80s along with the ones you mentioned. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I remember getting the album at 16 listening to it without changing anything. I have a fuzzy childhood memory of going to the record store with my mother when she bought the 'Let's Get It On' album

Like I always remember going in some record store and seeing my brother buy things without really knowing what it was, lol. He used to have a lot of Michael and Prince (and other artists) in his car.

Isn't it funny the things we remember from our childhood?

In other words, When you leave, don't stay gone. ... You know what? I have an old vinyl copy of the album and it lists the song as "Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away)".I have always thought that was an odd title, lol. But I recently got the 2-CD Deluxe Edition and on my copy, that song is now listed as ""Please Stay (Once You Go Away)".I wonder if the original title was an error that they didn't correct when the album cover was printed?

That's strange, lol. Knowing how Motown was, I wouldn't be surprised. [Edited 6/5/09 0:43am]
