Jazzy joints on otherwise R&B/Soul albums.

I love jazzy - soulful music from artists you might not expect it from. Can you all help me make a little list of some good examples?

I'll start with Cameo's "Love You Anyway" from their 1984 album She's Strange.

...Your turn.

it probably won't classify as an "R&B/Soul" album but there are some
pretty cool jazzy moments and interludes on andre 3000s "love below"
imo.

erykah has some jazzy stuff on all her albums but then i guess the
entire albums she releases carry, if not a "vibe", at least a jazz
spirit.

Most Neo Soul artists are always gonna have jazzy elements in their music. D'Angelo, Erykah, Maxwell...all have jazzy vibes to their joints.

Mellow madness music

The Players' were trained jazz musicians, so it's not really a big surprise that their music would have jazz influences smile
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

"Off My Mind" and "Crush", from Zhane's first two albums. They are two very jazzy cuts...

This was on Chaka's 1980 "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me ?" album, and featured Herbie Hancock on clavitar and Dizzy on trumpet....

The thing I love about this tune is that not only is it inspired by Marvin Gaye's "Trouble Man", but they also took it 2 a new school level....

Whoever said rappers couldn't play real music oughta listen 2 this....btw, thats the legendary Keith Crouch on the piano... Ron Townsend on Flute....G-One on the drums, and Quik on the Bass...

Jazzy? Maybe more swing-y than anything to my ears. Perhaps "Glad She's Gone" and "Shalom" by him have more proper jazz elements on them than "O Divina". He also of course had Branford Marsalis play a really dissonant solo on "Undeniably", which is something I really can't remember Branford having done too much on his own recorded output. Another thing is whether "Vibrator" really was an R&B / Soul album though - in that case I should be allowed to mention "Gone" By The Cure from "Wild Mood Swings". wink

Criterion is a song I actually used once as my opening song at a DJ gig. I had the fog machine simulating smoke! : )))

I was introduced to this song and album, through the brother of an classmate of mine. He always would blasts this song and finally I asked him what and who it was, I have loved this song since. I recently learned from his sister, that he was nearly beaten to death by a bunch of thugs and had suffered brain damage. Every time I hear it now, I think of Casey.
