New Purple Rain Song I heard a new song with the title "Purple Rain." Naturally I want to see if the song was respectful of the original. To my surprise it's not a remake and it was different but not in a bad way. I figured what the hell, it's only $0.99 cents. It's pretty good with a decent message. It's at iTunes (here is the URL for a preview: http://itunes.apple.com/W...8&s=143441

Sounds a bit uninspired to me, but it was only 30 seconds.
I kind of scoff a bit at people who use a title like "Purple Rain" for a song. They would have NEVER thought that up, most likely, had it not been for Prince. No one ever thought of a "raspberry beret" or calling something an "experience", until Prince did. It reminds me of talking to Mel B. on Beautiful Strange, and saying how some people are genuinely doing a remake, and some just "want a piece of the purple pie." People like Semisonic doing "Erotic City" was a remake. Lashah doing a song that happens to have the same title is getting a piece of pie. There are three songs from that person with big popularity. "Purple Rain" being one of them. Hmmm, wonder why?????

I agree, I hate it when famous song names get reused. There are certain songs you CAN't rename.
Yesterday Imagine Thriller Satisfaction Rock With You are the songs with less imaginative names. If someone uses them (and they were resused) I just think they don't know bout music history. Then there are song titles which would be really strange to reuse them, almost a plagiate (although song names can't be plagiaried) like Billie Jean Purple Rain Penny Lane Strawberry Fields Forever Hey Jude

I agree with both you. He's got another track named Kashmir (same spelling as the one from Led Zeppelin). Both songs are original in the fact that they do not borrow anything from the other versions except for the title. I have to admit, that I was intrigued enough to go further and google him (Lashah), He has a Myspace site this is the URL: http://www.myspace.com/lashah. It's different stuff and I have to admit compared to what's currently on the radio, it's not bad at all. In fact I checked out a track his got called Dead Flowers and GOD Don't Need Warriors and I did something that I normally don't. I never purchase music from Independent Artist, unless there is a strong Buzz about them, but I purchase the CD "Dead Flowers."
There is another Independent Artist by the name of Deadly Dena, she's cold too. She's on Myspace as well.

That was way before Prince, so Prince was not the first one to use "experience".

So true. I guess Prince was getting some of the Voodoo pie. And it's fair to note that Prince wasn't the first music artist to change his name to a symbol.
