I love on the live version when she stops to "explain" the progression of this song. ("Sometimes you have to whoop a little ass on principle!") lol

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

To me, this was Jill's best album and my favorite track. Not feeling the stuff afterward though.

I didn't really like "Beautifully Human...", but I did like "The Real Thing..."
I still think "Who is Jill Scott?" is the best, tho. nod

Love that girl. Her first CD is still one of her best, but I loved me some "Golden" from Beautifully Human.

Me too. cool

I think some share chocolate 1 and shortrini opinion that Ms. Scott's sophomore effort "Beautiful Human" and "The Real Thing" don't have the seamless symmentry as "Who's Jill Scott". I thought "B.H." was a fine album, Ms. Scott is such a gifted lyricist. "The Real Thing" maybe she should've considered pairing down that album to 12 songs.

Wonderfully poetic...I just adore Jill Scott, saw her live last year at Brixton Academy. I surprised my partner with a weekend in London and didn't tell him what we were doing till on the train up! biggrin

Don't get me wrong: To me, Jill is the truth! I love her! nod
I just thought BH was a little sappy.

I was so hurt, because last year I had to sell my ticket to her show because I had to have surgery. Every time I see my friend in that concert shirt, I want to brick

reminds me of the week before
classes started my freshman year of college
this video was requested maaaad times on The Box

those were the days
Jilly was NOT playin around

I bought the album on the strength of this song/video
but I didn't really get into the album as a whole
until I started dating this really fly musician (R.I.P.)

because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

I love her voice and how she performs the song but the song in an of itself is whack. Don't ever confront some chick...get on your man's ass about that. And is this song indicating that Jill took the man from this chica? Why is Jill's man still talking to his ex? Its time for some lyrical analysis.

"Gettin' In The Way"

You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling

Sister girl
I know you don't understand
But you going have to understand he's my man now
What you had is gone
Our thing is sweet
Our thing is stronger than any lie you can tell on me
He knows my heart and that's the part
Yo roots are dug up
So you might as well give up
I see your intentions
You can't handle the truth
He let you go a long time ago
Now it's time to turn him loose

You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling

sugar honey girl fly fly away
I been a lady up to now don't know how much more I can take
Queens shouldn't swing if you know what I mean
But I'm bout to take my earrings off get me some Vaseline
(You better go on get out my face girl you better chill)
Chill and I mean it
(You better back down before you get smacked down you better chill)
You better relax yourself
(You better go on get out my face girl you better chill
He's my man and nobody else's

You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling

Everything was beautiful between me and him
And here come you and your big mouth talking about me
Telling him that you seen me up 24th Street
With them other Cats
But you know that's a lie
You keep lying to my man
girlfriend
I'm go take you out in the middle of the street and whoop yo tail
All this worth 5.99 or something like that

You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling
You're getting the way of what I'm feeling

Oh I aint done yet...

all songs are songs but to some they are messages, stories, instructions, life experiences set to music. no matter what this song means to anyone...

lyrically it be about a bitch whose man is hearing gossip from his ex and possibly believing it so new girl bout to whoop old girls ass if she don't shut her mouth. With that said, its lyrical bullshit cuz the man is clearly playin' both these Hos

Nice Beadwork tho
