I'm probably looking too deeply here, but flip the colors and some Orgers would be clamoring for someone to be banned. I was waiting for a post like this... Its a sound, and not related to the colour of the musicians. "End of a SlowDance" by Van Hunt is white funk. And no, the question "what is the Blackest Funk Song" wouldn't be offensive either. But then, i'm speaking from England where most folks aren't as uptight about the race issue I think  | |

Whitest funk song could be taken two ways. It could be by a white artist that sounds really funky but still sounds really white. Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" would be my pick for that category. Or it could be a funk song with either hard rock guitar such as the Isley Brother's "Livin' In The Life/Go For Your Guns" or even a funk song with orchestras or strings such as Prince's "Anotherloverholenyohead". If you switched it around and asked for the blackest rock song, that wouldn't be offensive either. My immediate picks for that category would be "Free Ride" by Edgar Winter or "Green Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf. They are rock songs but they are funky. Andy is a four letter word. | |

My concept of funk and such just isn't a race-based one. And, because of my brand of musical imaging (I think it's synesthesia), musical whiteness and blackness suggest totally different, non-racial things to me.  | |
