WHY do people like You're All I Need? MJB & Meth... I first heard the song I think..summer of 95 or something? Anyway...I was like, "oh this song aint going to go nowhere.." Little did I know I was going to have to hear that song almost every day for 2 years to come just about...and they STILL play that mess to this day. WHY do people like this track? I dont get it! Mary J is just lookin depressed and singing the same ol line over and over and over again. They sittin there on a rooftop headnodding as if the song is actually banging or something. Lookin all depressed. To me, the song just doesnt pick up and is stagnant and repetetive. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I never liked it, but I'm not a huge rap fan either.
They actually won a Grammy for this song. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I like both songs. The MJB and Method man version, or rather their song in which they used a sample, was clever and modern and hip. How could you not like an inner city love song? E for effort. I can dig it.

I liked the video version as opposed to the radio version (the one with the BIG sample in it). The video was just grimy. Of course Mary J. was going through shit at this period so I can understand why some would dislike it. I remembered a Coca-Cola commercial that played this and the Marvin/Tammi interpretation. The father played Marvin's version and then was interrupted by his son bumping Method's version.

I love it. If I had to pick 10 of the best R&B/Hip-Hop collaborations of the '90s, this would definitely make the list. I actually prefer the Puff Daddy Remix:

I remember hearing Puffy's mix more than the other one. Guess it depended on the station... You be lucky to hear the Wu/Tical mix at all unless you were listening to a predominantly urban station.

The did the same thing for artist like Intro and Ce Ce Penniston. [Edited 5/26/09 15:21pm] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

It was like a top ten hit (#10, I believe, in America, #3 R&B, I think it was #10 in England)...

*Risks being ran out of the forum, but is a huge Method Man fan*
It's a nice collaborative effort by two stars 9now superstars) in their respective fields. What was ill about it was the fact that they put a spin on a classic record they probably both loved when they were coming up. (*Gasps, rappers listen to music too?* Yes WE do.) It's always nice to see how people appreciate songs and give their interpretation. I'm sure it is in no way meant to replace the original. It's just the Hip Hop generation's take on a committed relationship. Why can't it just be that? RZA's version is cool and Puff's isn't that bad either. BTW, classic video with Wu Tang representing. *Throws up the W*. I'm out. Peace, Hip Hop, and Purple Rain Gangsta Cru... Hip Hop, you're all I need. No I am a classic hip hop head too equally as I am to being a Motown Head, Paisley head and Electro head. I just dont think the song being it a take on a classic and all or not is not good..even without the interploation chorus it still sounds lazily produced and kind of boring to me. I didn't like it either when I first heard it at age 12, I thought the beat and the melody didn't sound on tune together, but it grew on me and I thought it was okay.

By the way, 100% of the publishing for Meth/MJB's song goes to Ashford & Simpson.
I prefer RZA's beat with the horror synth
