Top 5 Jimi Hendrix Songs

I was just listening to Machine Gun and am still blown away by the guitar work and instrumentation on this masterpiece. For all the die hard Hendrix fans and casual fans, what do you think are his top 5 masterpieces? They can range from the little known gems to the greatest hits we all know.

My 5:

1) Machine Gun-An electric guitar tour-de-force. It captures the essence of the chaos and confusion of violence and war. The Band of Gypsies may get very little recognition in the Hendrix songbook, but this is epic.

2)1983..(A Merman I should Turn to Be)--His psychadelic masterpiece. The lyrics are among my favorites too.

3)Drifting-Poignant.

4)Voodoo Chile (Slight return)

5)Hear My Train A comin (acoustic)

What are yours?

3)
"Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

I'll give 5 for each of Jimi's 2 distinct eras,JHE and BoG. Geez this is hard tho, ONLY 5 and not including boots? Let's see...

1. Third Stone From The Sun...absolute fav
2. Hear My Train A Comin'...12 string accoustic
3. If 6 Was 9
4. Freedom
5. Voodoo Chile

Hey Joe, Watchtower, and Win Cries Mary for honorable mention

BoG/assorted:

1. His live Auld Lang Signe at the Winterland 12/31/69...kills me every time
2. Dolly Dagger
3. Machine Gun
4. Belly Button Window
5. Who Knows

I love all his stuff, but I'm partial to the "smallest" of his albums "Axis: As Bold As Love".

Well, here goes nothing:

Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)
Burning of the Midnight Lamp
Castles Made of Sand
1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)
Power of Soul

or something like that.

Nothing man. Missed the intelligent convos about Black rock/New Wave around these parts.

I figured at some point a Hendrix thread may bring you back. Really feeling Machine Gun lately and am trying to get as much Hendrix music as possible. any pointers? I have all the official releases, but want more.

Do you have the Hendrix Box set? That's real cool. I dig it cuz it has many alternate versions of Jimi's first two albums. South Saturn Delta? The Blues Album, Hendrix Live at the Filmore East, Radio One? If you have those as well then maybe u can get your hands on some older wax albums...When I was a kid, I used to buy ANYTHING that had a pic of Jimi on the cover. So in that process, I ended up not only getting Jimi's first 3 albums, the Smash Hits and Band of Gypsys, Rainbow Bridge but also ended up buying albums that were pieced together after Jimi had left this earth. The Alan Douglas period. Crash Landing, Hendrix In The West, War Heroes, Midnight Ligtning, Cry of Love. I have all of that on wax. The Essential Hendrix is great. Also the Essential Hendrix Vol Two. I also have on wax since 78 the Isle of Wight from 71. That was put out by Polygram. Then stuff like Hendrix with Curtis Knight, Hendrix with Lonnie Youngblood.
