New Simple Minds this week

Jim Kerr and co are back with a new album released this week in the UK:

They used to be my favourite band, back in the late 80's, but their later work put me off and I haven't listened for years.

For some reason I checked this new album out and I am liking it so far - certainly the sound is ticking all the right boxes for me. I need to give it a few more spins for the songs to get under my skin, but are there any other Orgers who might be checking this out.....?
This is not an exit

I used to like them also. My favorite has always been, Alive and Kickin'.

i too would say they are in my top 5 ...

i loved the "alive and kicking " album also - and they are one of those bands that i saw continuing to get better and better ... up til around the late 80s or so ...

i never thought Simple Minds really sold out .... they have that distinctive sound - heavy guitar and drum ... and i always like hearing some of their songs ...

Interestingly - did you guys know "dont you forget about me " was first given to Billy Idol and he turned it down ??
Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

I could see Idol, singing that song. I guess he was trying to establish himself as a rock/punk artist and believe the song would not suit him...

Billy Idol's version is on the greatest hits release. Wow, that's interesting. I would include "All The Things She Said" to the list of already mentioned fave songs.

this is their strongest record in quite awhile, from the first track "moscow underground" which has one of the best bass lines in a long time, (and its a real bass line, not a sample), this is gonna be a strong May-June for the 80's bands with new cds, of course you will have to check your import shops, since here america, labels think all we want is Tpain.
