Somebody forgot to tell James you're not supposed to touch a White person's clothes with White people in 'em.

He sure was. Especially since after releasing Say it Loud caused some people to misinterpret his stance.

Right. Funny thing is he was both loved and demoralized for "Say It Loud". But James wanted to play both sides of the fence. People couldn't understand how James would be performing at a breakfast for the Black Panther Party then turn around and shake hands with Nixon. People both black and white didn't really know what to make of James. People thought by 1972 that James had gotten "too political". By 1976, he had no choice but to return to perform just party music.
