Yeah, welcome.

I was ambivalent towards her and thought she was just another r'n'b-chic.
But she is smart and is ambitious. I think at the end of teh day her songs have like 4 songwriters, more than a Madonna song.
So I'm not sure how good of a songwriter she really is.

But she has style, irony, intelligence and the looks to stay there for more than a year - as long as her next album will be as good as Madonna's Like A Virgin album. Gaga needs to have two or three REALLY big hits so that everybody will know her.

maybe a proper ballad?

Not an r&b ballad either. I think hearing Akon on Just Dance turned me off from the start...I would have listened to it better if he had NOT been in the song, signed her in or not. However Love Game is my JAYM. The type of song I would produce. I hated Poker Face and still do.

Not sure myself....I saw her interviewed on the Jonathon Ross show and she seemed very aloof, and a bit "Meg Ryan" for my liking. And at the mo she seems a bit too Aguilara. There's alot of acts like her around at the mo, so I think she needs to do a bit more to distinguish herself, get herself as more unique sound.

Having said that, I wont judge her on one album and one interview... biggrin

Me neither. This woman is awful. I saw her on tv the other night and just thought "my god, what is this shit'?. Her song Poker Face is catchy, but I don't like anything else about her.

Akon says all of two words in the song. LOL, sorry, but I didn't even notice he was there.

She is atrocious. Crap songs. Phony attitude.

It's all good if you don't like her as an artist, but I don't understand the "phony" bit? You said that in another thread and you're the only one that said it there...wondering where you're coming from?

As I see it, she is the only popstar out there that is controlling all her own stuff, from her look to her production/recordings and her stage show. It appears she is the only young successful popstar out there at the moment who's not being played like a puppet.

Criticizing Lady Gaga for a phy attitute is sort of funny. It's not like she is necessarily aiming for authenticity.

But yeah, on the other hand she's really not the first artist to use camp aesthetics. Perhaps it's a bit newer thing to some American pop music listeners, but in Europe everyone and their mom have been involved in similar electropop projects.

I guess why i dig her music. i am not totally moved by the music either. its going to it toll in a few minutes. to be quite honest i rather like that facts that she states bowie has her influence. its a fresh air of what is sometimes being play on the telly. perhaps the only i've liked that has come out of this year.

love the Lady but i'm tired of her current sticht. granted i discovered her last year this time when America was sleeping on her. i'm more interested in seeing what she's going to do next.

I need to go check my eyes again. I am misspellling words constantly it seems. wink

*"phy" ("phony")

She's very funny in interviews and I think she is musically talented. But we've really had plenty of kitschy pop kittens in Europe during this decade - so perhaps her current popularity is just simply due to her being American? In some ways she seems to also represent the apex of a certain type of a female artist that you can find often on myspace, you have the camp / kitsch -thing going on there. She's had an undeniably catchy pop hit that's been playing all over the world non-stop during the last months, but yes, I agree that she needs to move on if she wants to have a substantial career in music. You can't tell the same joke over an over, even if it would be a great joke.

For those who don't get the "phony" thing. Another word for it might be pretentious. She is acting out the role of what she thinks an "artist" is. In this case, quirky. But it's a pure pose. She is an insider pretending to be an outsider.

That's not saying much.... especially when an artist who gets her name from a word that means "nonsense", is called a better singer than someone who is supposed to be a veteran...
