Doesn't his sperm function or why has he adopted a anorexian girl? His wife at the time, Brenda, couldn't have children, so they adopted Nicole. She is actually Sheila E.'s niece. Her father is one of Sheila's brothers that played with them during the PR tour. I can't remember if it was Juan or Peter Escevedo. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

"Dancing On The Ceiling" (the song) is one of the WORST song of the 80s The video is pathetic. I also disliked the sappy "Say You,Say Me" It's as if the crossover success of 'Can't Slow Down' convinced him that he should go totally "pop",so he concentrated on bland, adult contemporary 80s crap. I agree with you about DOTC. I never liked that song. Now, I thought the video was pretty cool (at the time). It does look cheesey now, though. Also, I despised "Say You, Say Me" also. I never got how someone who had just released a great album like "Can't Slow Down" could come up with some horrible crap like that. I remember when "Say You,Say Me" came out,Black Beat magazine did an article where they suggested that Lionel was turning into "the black Barry Manilow" They felt that he was becoming a little too pop/middle of the road. His ballads were becoming too schmaltzy and boring.

My parents loved Lionel back in the day. I ALWAYS thought his music was even "All Night Long".
And I've stated repeatedly that i've never cared for the Commodores either, but I do agree that they should reunite and go on tour. They could be the opening act for The Jackosns reunion tour. Like old times again. (fucking sorry ass, lazy ass, trifling ass, greasy ass, crazy ass Jacksons) I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

exactly, for me, he's missing edges. he's perfect for radio and my mother likes him. but there could never be a Sticky about him on this forums.

Summed up how I feel. Could never get into "Dancing on the ceiling" or "Say You Say Me" As for getting into Lionel, some artists you either feel or you don't, although ssometimes maybe depending on what you go through you might connect to a song and feel it after many years, but usually if you truly don't feel that connection now.(No pun intended) you won't ever. Oh and his new album I don't like at all. He don't need to go that route. [Edited 5/22/09 7:41am]

It worked my nerves also. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

That's the image I have in my head whenever I hear anything off of Prince's "The Truth" album or any of his accoustical sets when he's in concert. Yuck. Andy is a four letter word.

The Reason why you can't get into Lionel.. Is because he's lost in the Wilderness.. I was "offended" by his last album.. The Boy is a Great Song writer and it's a shame that he wants to have that now sound.. when everybody wants to have that Back in the Day Lionel Sound...
If he does Follow through with the Commodores, they should go away for 3 Months and jam and write songs organically..

Plus he was doing duets with Diana and collaborating with Lionel, and being branded as a cookie cutter pop group when they were really a funk group. So he had to leave. Except he wasn't kick out of The Commodores. He quit. And the media were also the blame for this. Music critics used to praise Lionel for writing excellent love ballads AND also criticize him for "wasting" his talents in a R&B band. In other words, Lionel had too much crossover-pop potential to stay in a black R&B/funk band. So he took what the music critics were saying true to heart and left The Commodores.

Lionel was never kicked out of the group. Like you stated and i stated earlier lionel left because the outside projects were building and he didn't want to hold the band hostage. He also stated that the late Sammy Davis, Jr. told him to give going solo a shot since he was a great songwriter. This is what i heard come out of Lionel's mouth not what i think he said. Don't laugh at my funk

I remember hearing that. I think the comments took their toll on Lionel, that's why he left, he just couldn't handle them talking about the group as if they were shit.
