Levert appreciton thread

It's hard to believe that Levert is no more. I really have been listening to a lot of their stuff lately. They could get the party started and make a killer slow jam. Here are some of my favorites.

It definitely is. Does anyone know the status of Sean's case? Last I heard, his family was suing the jail he was in because they didn't give him his medication.

No, there's been no update about it.

I liked some of Gerald's solo albums, especially the early 90's stuff. But, for whatever reason, I was never into the Levert material.

I'm just the opposite. I do like Gerald's solo albums, but some of them were inconsistent and some were just flat out dull.

"Gerald's World" is the worst of all of his projects to me.

"Just Coolin'" was my jam. So was "I've Been Waiting", "Good Ol' Days", "Sweet Sensation" and "Addicted To You". I liked "Casanova" the first million times I heard it. Now, I avoid it like the plague. lol

Levert was cool for the most part before becoming
predictable and/or derivative. It got to the
point where they'd drop a new album with a corny
first single like pullover or good ol days
before dropping the butta ballads. I think the
group realized that they were becoming stale and
eventually even gerald realized the public wanted
him more as a solo artist versus being a member
of levert.

I think the biggest issue with Levert was Mark. He and Gerald butted heads BIG TIME. Especially after the Just Coolin' album.

If you think about it, it was probably the record company who picked the first single for their projects. "Casanova" was the first single from "Throwdown". "Addicted To You" was the first single from "Just Coolin'". It came out first on the Coming To America soundtrack. When it hit number one, they dropped "Pull Over". Then the album dropped a few weeks later.

I agree that "Pull Over" was a bad single choice, but it sounded like so many of the other songs on the radio at the time. Not to mention, Mark probably wanted to shine and not be overshadowed by Gerald.

As for their other albums, I loved "Rope A Dope Style". I just didn't care for the title track. The ballads on that album were killer. I remember when they were promoting "All Season" and wondering why were they promoting that weak song instead of "I've Been Waiting" or "Baby I'm Ready".

I liked the "For Real Tho'" album, but they picked the wrong singles to me. I did love "Good Ol' Days". I think I liked it because of the female vocalists. They sounded a lot like the Jones Girls.

All season was one of favorites. lol
I didn't know Gerald and Mark were at odds. I wasn't that crazy about
any of their uptempos but Cassonova and Just Coolin although the beat
was monotonous.

Gerald and Mark were really butted heads a lot. That was one of the main reasons he started his own solo career. Gerald had written hits for himself and others and Mark couldn't stand it.

If you look at the credits on the last Levert album, it is clear. Gerald was hardly on that album. Mark wrote most of the material for that album. Gerald didn't write that many tracks. I think a track or 2 were left overs from some of his solo sessions.
