-Evey (Black) artist is either Hip-Hop or RnB not true but this what everyone thinks. For example Santogold said people were shock she said she didn't like RnB and she said it was racist to say she was that or hip-hop. The Hip-Hop clan as I like to call them went on saying oh she thinks she to good for hip hop, Fuck hipster, Other kelis. I mean really has this genre become somewhat of a blackness trait. And other thing Jay-z thinks he is the king of music that has to help everyground artist with his damn verses M.i.a, Amy, Santogold. Kanye too. When a new hot artist thats not even Hip-hop to begin with, here comes the Hip-Hop clan remixing and what not. I'm not a hip-hop hater i luv it but do like other genres too. I don't like feeling trap. I like the freedom of music. People question what will take over Hip-hop and i say nothing cause as soon as a new sound come the Hip-Hop clan will remix it!!!!! That was horrendous. . It was..the Spongebob BK commercial? I just looked and shook my head Straight Jacket Funk Affair

The answes have been answered, but too much were looking in2 samples.. hell the first commercial rap song was brought up on Chic's Good Times..and Beatie Boy's Paul Boutique is one of rap's classic chopped up albums full of samples. So then where does the conversation go? Have the chopped samples made hip hop go astray? have the full samplings made hip hop go in the dumps...or what about the original ringtone rap Cash Money and Master P made popular made street rap almostly an underground thing? I would believe its the latter. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I would believe its the latter. i understand that. and believe it or not, i'm pretty aware of hip hop history, but everyone's intitled to their own opinion, and as per original request- alot of people said their primary issue was sampling, so i asked them their opinon on those two particular cases? (none of them have responded tho interestingly enough.. ) personally dont have a problem with sampling, but as i said in the begining of the thread i wasnt gonna argue over it this time. i was just curious enough to dig deeper into the context by which they declared sampling immoral

Anxiety said: it always bothers me when someone says "i hate ALL hip-hop" just like when someone says "i hate ALL country/jazz/classical", etc.
how can you know you hate something until you've actually heard it? just as a blanket opinion, i don't like current contemporary top 40 hip-hop. gangsta rap. ringtone rap. blingsta rap. whatever you want to call it. i dislike it because musically, it sounds uninspired and it lacks energy. lyrically, i think it's all disingenuous posturing that has little connection with artistry or culture that i find valuable. lil' wayne might as well be hannah montana as far as i'm concerned. that's not to say i don't like a lot of hip-hop, because i do. most of what i like was created in the 80s, and some in the 90s. i know what i like when i hear it, so if i hear something new coming out that people are excited about, i will at least give it an honest chance the first time i have an opportunity to hear it. for me to say i hate an entire genre without knowing all of what i am turning my nose up at is kind of like judging something preemptively. i don't like that. Sums it up perfectly 4 me, and clearly as well, on all points. Hip-hop was very exciting from approximately 1987-1994, where U had a variety of styles, and lyrical subject matter. Skills were abundant, both lyrically and musically. The lyrical and musical diversity is gone now, and the beats sound tired and "genericised" 2 death. Sadly, the days of Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Chubb Rock, etc, etc, etc, R OVER. . [Edited 5/19/09 13:53pm] "He's a musician's musician..."

I just love this thread-as a hip hop lover, it amuses me to see the lengths that people go to in order to describe how much they hate hip hop. You don't like it? You don't have to listen to it, just like I don't have to listen to country music.

TUPAC 4 EVER. Then, what do we have to listen to? That's the problem. It's not a matter of simply listening to something else. There's nothing else to listen to, R&B-wise, and shit hop is the reason for that. Andy is a four letter word.

i think some started a thread and asked a question. Rap evolved into a misogynistic, homophobic, hyper-macho, racist, self-hating, music of death.
