Friday Night Videos Memory from 1984

Some things just stick in your mind, like this night in particular. For those of you who remember, FNV was our MTV when we didnt have cable, for me i only got to see MTV when i visited cousins in New Jersey and they had it back then, but this one night i remember in 1984 was a nonstop grab a vhs tape and tape them all kind of nite. I couldnt wait for the school week to be over to catch what was new on FNV, and early on, they played straight videos, this was a few years before "commercialism" took over and FNV was hosted and the videos were cut into by one of the cosby kids, or chris elliot or whomever had some tv show to promote.

But on this night it was nonstop amazzing videos

Thriller -MJ (full version)
Dont Answer ME- alan parsons
99 luftballons- Nena
Somebodys watching me -Rockwell
Pipes of Peace- Paul McCartney
Valotte- Julian Lennon
Wrapped around your finger- the police

just to name a few, there were tons of others, this was when the show was 90 minutes, you got a few videos before a commercial, you were dieing for the damn commercials to be over to check the new video by _____ and just look at the diversity of artist, you have McCartney in his 40's, the Alan Parsons Project who really have never be seen or did videos, Julian debuting, a new wave band in Nena, the rock of the Police, and MJ on top of his game and of course Rockwell, you aint gonna get this kind of diversity anymore from a channel or station, no one has that ability anymore.

yeah i can recall a night where they premiered the "shes strange" video, that sticks out in my mind because i had been sick that whole week and out from school and i can remember waking up and my brother was watching the show because i had a fever.

I remember seeing the series debut which showed the video for "Beat It". Then my cousins told me that I watched the wrong show and New York Hot Tracks was the better one. I never watched Friday Night Videos again.

amazing memories right there....and the funny thing on those artists being played, they all still put out music now, with the exception of Saga and John Parr for the most part, all the others are cutting records.....will anyone now be around in 25 years

GHEEEEEZUS you have taken me BACK! I was 16 in 1984, and LIVED for FNV. I, too, only saw MTV when I went to my cousin's across town.

I remember Morris Day hosting FNV once. They played one or both songs from The Time that night.

But yeah, "Beat It", "Thriller". LOVED it. "Let's Go Crazy" often started the show. All sorts of great videos. It was something you looked forward to every Friday, especially if you didn't have cable. TBS had Night Tracks but again....cable. And we didn't have cable at all.

Damn, I wish they'd rerun some of those shows again.

LOL@ Showbiz. I used to have some of their 45's that they sold. I loved them as a kid. We loved going there, but it was rare.
