Always-feat Cherelle & Johnny Gill

That 2nd album was a winner and this title song was the centerpiece.

Are You Ready?

Nice comeback. I love the fact that she found her groove and never strayed 2 far from it. I hated how she fucked over TLC, but you reap what you sow 'cause TLC made it thru seven more years while Perri fell off and caught the holy ghost. lol

i remember i caught Pebbles' green leather glove at a show with Hi-5 at the State Theater in Detroit. her managers tried to buy it back from me for like $150 and i refused (doooh, shoulda took the money). hung out with some of her ppl afterwards and was told to look out for a new girl group they were making, they gave me an early pic of them, turned out to be TLC. Pebbles was hot for a minute. i enjoyed her

This gave me a good laugh, totally loved both back in the day. The way they danced, dressed, the hair... it kind of resembled my horrid mess say, over 20 years ago or so. lol

But the mention of TLC above... I really miss their sound and style.

She was talented, but also quite shady when it came to business dealings.

I have never seen this performance. Was this remix released? I don't remember hearing anything but the extended version.

Very talented. If you can co-write a masterpiece like Whip Appeal, you can do damn-near anything.

Come on now. That doesn't give anyone license to be greedy. Her involvement with TLC was deplorable.

I guess you are right. She did cheat them big time.

I was going through my old vhs tapes this weekend and came across the vh1 behind the music on TLC and heard Left-Eye breaking it DOWN of how they lost all of their money.

I think Pebbles is still suffering because of what she did to them. It's no wonder she went running down the gospel route.

Yep, Lisa really broke that down well. It really explained how an album's profits are divided up. Unfortunately people like Pebbles and Lou Pearlman and even LA Face knew that system forward and backward and used it to fill their pockets.

Exactly! La and Face made a shit-load of money off of all of those LaFace acts. Toni Braxton and TLC really did it for them. Then Usher came along and fattened their pockets even more.

It was really funny how after the TLC fiasco, they started renegotiating deals left and right.

I wonder if Dallas Austin and Jermaine Dupri did the same thing? Dallas was apart of LaFace for a minute with the Highland Place Mobsters. Then he started producing and writing for their acts. Then, next thing I see is he has Monica on Rowdy records. Same for Jermaine. He did a few LaFace mixes and wrote a few songs for them, then he was out to start So SO Def and launched Kris Kross and Xscape.

I remember it getting to the point that Toni Braxton took them to court, trying to renegotiate a contract, and their response was "It's just business", in defense of giving her the "standard" shitty beginners contract.

Didn't Face and LA fall out for a minute because Face felt he
was getting screwed by LA. According to Face, he used to handle
most of the musical ventures while LA handled the business
side of things. They eventually worked their differences out
but Face was even doing production on his own after they fell out.

Yeah, I think they started falling out in 92/93. LA was doing nothing on the musical side. Face was writing the songs and handling the production. If I'm not mistaken, "For The Cool In You" (the album) was the last thing credited to both La and Face. After 93, it became all Face.

I think that they originally had a deal like Jam and Lewis where they were splitting everything 50/50 regardless or who wrote or produced it.

Being a Christian isn't a bad deal. It probably saved her life, being that she was on a path of drugs and renal failure. Something had to pull her back, because no one around her was. But don't forget the others in Prince's camp that are Christians.

Dez. Sheila E. Paul Peterson. Gayle. Brownmark (JW). Kat Dyson. The list goes on.
