Leela James' remake of Bootsy's "I'd Rather Be With You"  
This is the only track on her new album that grabbed me enough to d/l it. It's a good remake, though I have to agree w/ a review I saw that said it could have been grittier. The high, whispery voice still kinda bugs me but I'm getting used to it (it wasn't as prominent in Bootsy's). All in all, I'm diggin' it. & the best thing about it - the way it was recorded! You feel like you're in the room w/ them as they're playing. I have no idea how they achieved that but it's NICE, makes me wanna hit a live show every time I listen. I don't care how "good" it is...unless Bootsy and his space bass are on it...I don't want it...cause I'd rather be with Bootsy!!!

in this performance she is GREAT!

I think everybody at some point and time could relate to this song "My Joy". I think her voice is soulful enough to handle the Bootsy remake of I wanna be with you... [Edited 5/22/09 5:20am] I gotta agree with this...Bootsy's track is killin' and I much prefer the o.g. version. Somebody hipped me to Leela's version before and I can understand WHY somebody would want to cover it. Because the song is bangin'. BUT there are specific reasons WHY Bootsy's version is bangin'.
