Are there any indie labels that are still doing it?

A popular Christian label here (Gotee) recently bought back their stake from EMI so they could go back 100% independent. Also local, Compass Records is still doing their thing (Vic Wooten's (former?) label) as well as Curb Records.
TVT had to go after losing a lawsuit from one of their rap artists--forgot all the details-- and I believe Subpop (Seattle, gave birth to Nirvana) is still in the game.
Give a heads up on indie labels that are still managing to do their thing in spite of all the craziness going on in the industry.

---> here lies No Limit Records tombstone

Shanachie is one of the first ones that come to mind: http://www.shanachie.com/

Jazz
R&B/Soul/Blues
Irish/Celtic
World
Reggae
Folk/Singer-Songwriter
Gospel
Americana
New Age/Funk/Pop
Home Video/DVDs
Yazoo

You'd be surprised how many familiar names you'll find there.

What ever happen to THESE independent labels?:

Moonshine Records (used to be one of few USA-based electronic music labels)
Stax Records
Bellmark Records
Take 'Fo Records (an New Orleans/West Bank area-based hip-hop label that specialize in Bounce Music)

Correct. Their brand has never appealed to me, but my wife and I have ties to some of the people they work with.

I never got into ALL their music, but I do believe they did break some new ground with some of their albums. Toby's a talented guy. I love that they went in a 180 with Jesus Freak, and tilted people on their ears with it. They took a negative phrase and made it positive. "What the devil meant for naught, God meant for good."

DC Talk were revolutionaries for the genre. But the Gotee artists? shrug never got into them and Jennifer Knapp is the only that really took off.

BTW, DC Talk and Toby are not Gotee artists.

That's a good question. Were they bought by a major, did they fold, or are they still around somewhere?

Artists like Tag Team (Whoomp, There It Is) & Prince (The Beautiful Experience EP) were Bellmark Records' claim to fame.
