Agreed. I miss MUSIC television. The best thing about Palladia is that they play nothing but music, AND it's anything in HD.

Remember when you couldn't turn on MTV withOUT seeing a video? It was foreign to see Ricky talking to Ratt on Headbanger's Ball. but now it's foreign to see a video without Tiffany screaming to Heather and Amber and Britnnay and Megan over it.

I loved AJ Hammer on VH1. I loved Rosie O'Donnell on VH1. I loved Martha Quinn and Mark Goodman. I loved seeing the MTV News at 10 before the hour, EVERY hour. I love special events like the Sheridan Wyoming thing, because it was so different and raw and cool.

Now..well now even MTV2 only plays Viva La Bam reruns OVER AND OVER. And now Matt Pinfield, one of the best minds to talk about the music scene, is in rehab trying to get better.

oh Gawd you brought it all back,, Summer vacation glued to Martha Quinn

VH1 stands for Video Hits 1. They seriously need to change the name of the station since videos are only played in the early morning hours and the other 23 hours is mostly stupid reality shows. I have a basic AT&T package also so I don't get to see VH1 Classics or VH1 Soul. The latter is part of the most expensive package. However, from what I can tell looking at the TV guide portion, VH1 Soul mostly concentrates on contemporary R&B/Hip Hop. Do they show any classic videos/concerts from the 80s on this channel? Seems like anything retro has been relegated to the VH1 Classics station.

I've noticed the same thing from looking at the TV Guide and that's why I could care less about having VH1 Soul. I don't even want R&B videos from the late 80s. I want R&B videos, concerts, or television appearances from the 1970s and early 1980s up to 1984.

what the fuck im SINCERE about this. I use to stay glued to vh1 while all the other kids was watching cartoons.

anybody else feel me on this?

Trust me. I HEAR YOU and I FEEL YOU on that one. VH1 used to be the channel wayyyy back in the day.

Back then VH1 used to play like MTV for those who grew up, had responsibilities but still loved music. VH1 was like for people who watched original MTV in the 80s and now they're older and VH1 aged with you and played all the old 70s and 80s stuff as your time capsule. That's how I viewed the channel as a kid. So it was like escapism for me.

VH1 in the very early 90s played nothing but old '80s videos, like the first few years of MTV videos. I'm talking M "Pop Muzik," "Video Killed The Radio Star," Human League, Rockwell, Waitresses, John Cougar, Bruce Springsteen & Van Halen (when they were BIG as hell in 1984), J.Geils Band, etc.

YO, THEY USED TO BLAST PHIL COLLINS/GENESIS VIDEOS, Billy Joel, Billy Idol, George Michael "Freedom '90", "Slegehammer," Robert Palmer "Addicted To Love" way back in the early ass '90s. I LOVED THAT, dude. Those are sharp memories from being a very little kid.

Blasting PAUL SIMON "Call Me Al" with Chevy Chase up in the video, Bobby McFerrin, Tracy Chapman videos.

I used to love watching all those old new wave/'80s alt videos (Go-Gos, Buster Pointdexter, Wang Chung, Taco, Toto, Thomas Dolby, etc), I remember they had a weekend where they played every single video from A to Z in their catalogue. I taped Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You" off that (the old video with the Breakin' dancers TKO).

And they weren't afraid of CAMP like Dee-Lite, Right Said Fred, Chumbawumba, RuPaul "Supermodel," B-52's "love Shack" every weekend -- that should be commended!

Rock N Roll Jeopardy (why did I know most of the answers????)

Behind the Music was great. The classic TLC episode ("This is how you sell 10 million records and be broke" ~ Left Eye), the classic Poison episode, that was a great music documentary show.

I used to love INSOMNIAC MUSIC THEATER and even loved all those old foggie showws like "Fairway To Heaven" with Hootie & The Blowfish and Dave Matthews playing golf. I'm NOT playing. I loved "Satellite," "Crash Into Me", "Ants Marching." Hootie "I Only Wanna Be With You"

I even used to like all that Lilith Fair/clitrock they used to play "Where Have all the Cowboys Gone," Alana Davis "32 Flavors," "I'm A Bitch, I'm a Lover," Natalie Imbruglia, Des'ree, all those Starbucks coffee shop songs. All those Seattle-type/Friends songs.

I USED TO LOVE ALL THAT WESTERN ROCK/COFFEE SHOP MUSIC they played: "Breakfast At Tiffanys", Marcy Playground "Sex & Candy", Semisonic, Third Eye Blind, Natalie Imbruglia, Spin Doctors, etc. etc.

And they revived MIDNIGHT SPECIAL and AMERICAN BANDSTAND Got to watch Janet perform Young Love and introduce herself. Watching old Credence Clearwater Revival, Wall of Voodoo talking to Dick Clark love

Those DISCO weekends when they played Vicki Sue Robinson, Chic, A Taste of Honey, Sparks, BeeGees... they used to do something like "High School Reunion" annually where they'd play stuff relevant to your high school class year.

I used to count on VH1 to play some OLD ROXETTE, B-52's "ROAM", DIVINYLS, The Remebrandts, REM "Stand", "What's The Frequency Kenneth", The Proclaimers, FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS, INXS. VH1 used to play the stuff back then.

As you can see, I was watching some damn VH1 as a kid *_____* between this, Disney Channel, old MTV, PBS, I was set.

VH1 soul plays alot of classic stuff. They mix stuff from now with stuff from the 70s, 80s, and 90s

They have some British documentaries that they run on a regular basis that focuses on Soul music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. They are good to see, but once you seen them, you can go on.

Now, they do show "classic" videos. Mostly stuff from the 80s. I recently say videos from Milira, Evelyn King, and Donna Allen. I haven't seen the videos in years on television. They also run video blocks from the New Jack Swing era and feature some early hip-hop stuff (Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh, etc.). So, some of the programming is really good.

Now, the concerts they show could use some help. The Sound Stage performances are usually people like Jill Scott, Ne-Yo and Chissette Michelle. I've also seen the Alicia Keys unplugged concert on there as well as the Uptown unplugged special that aired on MTV in the 90s.
