Disco classic of the day: "Rock It" by Lipps Inc. (1979)

Many people assume that "Funkytown" was the first Lipps Inc. single but actually,"Rock It" was their first single. It was released in late 1979 but didn't do very well. When the second single "Funkytown" became a huge smash in the summer of 1980,"Rock It" was re-released.In my opinion,"Rock It" is the superior song.

This song and "All Night Dancing" are my favorite songs on that album.

"Funkytown" was cool, but it wears thin after awhile. It's too repetitve.

Have you ever heard any of their other stuff. I never knew they made any more albums but they have a "Best Of" CD and I bought it last year. Their other stuff is OK but not as good as that first album. Tamara from Tamara and The Seen had joined the group on their last effort.

Yeah, they did a total of three or four albums.Their second album featured the minor hit "How Long" (a remake of the 1975 Ace hit) and the third album featured the single "Designer Music".I agree, these albums weren't nearly as good as the first one.
