So I was listening to the mix titled "The Ness Generation" by none other than our beloved Finesse/Iainttheone. The mixing on this is flawless Many times when listening to his mixes I feel like a mack, a Pimp, a starlet, a superstar.

Just trying to get you, to free your mind....



So many of his mixes take me back to the days when listening to the radio was an actual event. When you turned on the radio and turned it to your local radio station and you got a real DJ playing his own set instead of the corporate stations that receive one feed from some place, somewhere, and some electronic substitute for a DJ that has no clue what music even is

Last night I was listening to the FuckAround mix and you know how sometimes when you are listening to something and it takes you by such surprise and you totally know the song but you become so disoriented that you can't even name the song or the artist because it just slapped you over the head so hard? That happened last night when Chaka's "Stop on By" filled my ears.

It's funny how music conjures memories. I was listening to that part of the mix with Chaka led Rufus reminding me of the days when I was slapped in the face for listening to her and when my best friend witnessed my ex come unhinged because I didn't want to leave a party where Chaka was playing. My motivation was just to be surrounded with the music I loved, he of course read all kinds of other shit into it. He hated her. Hated most everything I loved.

And I just remembered those awful painful days when I was denied the simple pleasure of the music I loved and now I'm listening to the same music knowing I have love all around me.

Right now someone is shining their love on me and I am so thrilled to have a soundtrack for that Steve, you are a modern day savior: The DJ. Thank you for continually keeping us connected to the reason why most of us are such music enthusiasts. You'd be hard pressed to create mixes of current music that is full of amazing singers, talented musicians and which is born from genuine creativity and not some cookie cutter factory. Thank you for all the walks down memory lane and for reminding me WHY I am part of the Ness Generation.

I remember all of that.

I don't listen to Fin's mixes like I should , but there are some songs that I can tell you what year the song came out and what I was doing at that point in my life.

I also miss music and the radio being an event.

Yeah, Finess is great. He's a great DJ and he makes the org a lot of fun too.

I sure did. I started out with an actual tape recorder (not a tape deck) placed next to a stereo speaker with the sound turned up real loud. I had several recordings with my grandmother in the background...."Andy, either turn that damn shit down or turn it off! Dammitt, I'm not gonna tell you again!"



Oh, I used to love for the DJs to talk over the songs. That's what made radio so entertaining. Not only were the DJs entertaining, but they kept you company when you were lonely. And the ones in my area could talk some cash shit.

The DJs in my area used to be very creative. For instance, I don't know if you've heard the slow song "Tell Me What's Happening Baby" by The Soul Children. At the beginning of that song, J. Blackfoot is talking before he starts singing (back in those days, the spoken part in a song was called a "rap"). Anyway, J. Blackfoot would be talking and the DJ, Lady V, would answer him in the right spots to perfection with just the right answer right before he would ask the next question.....

J. Blackfoot: Hey.

Lady V: Hello, are you talking to me?

J. Blackfoot: Are you going out?

Lady V: Oh, for a little while.

J. Blackfoot: You was out last night. As a matter of fact, you was out every night this week. Where you be going to?

Lady V: Oh, I be with my friend Mary that stays up the street.

J. Blackfoot: Oh I see. Is that a new dress, it looks good on you?

Lady V: Oh, this old thing, I've had it quite a while now.

J. Blackfoot: Oh, you've had it quite a while huh. I see. Even though it's quite revealing wouldn't you say so?

Lady V: See baby, I believe in letting it all hang out.

J. Blackfoot: Oh, you believe in letting it all hang out. Well, when did you start believing in letting it all hang out?

Lady V: When you stopped noticing me.

J. Blackfoot: When I stopped noticing you?! Come on, you can do better than that!

The radio thing is a world wide phenomenon, ALL the good shows have disappeared. Here in Germany you could at least count a little bit on stations like JamFM , back in the days when they had DJ Kenny G ( a Jamaican guy who would play Funk and Soul classics) but they´ve fired all their good DJs and only play commercial shit these days.
Back in the 80s I´d stay up all night and listen to certain radio DJs and record their shows on cassette.
Those were the days ! I still have those old tapes.

Wow.. I am touched and grateful for the kind words on the mixes. I really appreciate it. Supa I love you so much you have no idea. I will do more mixes. Hopefully I will be doing more gigs here in AZ and hopefully other places.

I have a couple major obstacles:

• No CD Burner (well I have one but I have to dig through a mountain of stuff to find it and I need to repurchase the mixing program I had)
  
• Need to convert songs to MP3 to host on 8tracks (except there is a 10 song limit) or find alternate way of hosting the mixes.
  

Until such time that I find a home for my blog, my plans are to create a thread for each one of my mixes, much like I did in this project:
