Which soundtrack is better: Shaft vs. Superfly vs. Both soundtracks were great during the blaxploitation era. One dealt primarily with issues from the film ("Shaft") but with the other ("Superfly"), it counted both ways. In many ways even with the way that film featured drug usage and sales, the album hit on some serious social conscious notes that "Shaft" only tried once ("Soulsville"). One spot that both albums shined on was the instrumentals ("Cafe Reggio's", "Ellie's Love Theme", "Bumpy's Lament" from "Shaft" and "The Junkie Chase" and "Think" from "Superfly") and both albums were heavily sampled. But which soundtrack do you prefer of the almighty era that was the 1970s?

Superfly.
I'm not a violent person, but if someone tries to take either one, they're going to be cut open like a fish, even if I lay bloodied from a bullet atop a stack of cocaine.

Shaft, no doubt. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

Superfly.
But I don't personally consider it even one of the five best albums by Curtis..

Superfly. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Coincidentally I just bought both of these this month (also bought Super Fly on DVD). Both are excellent, but I think Super Fly is the winner.

Give me your love is one the greatest mellow slow jams ever composed. That alone forces my vote to Superfly

I agree. Even without the vocals, it's still sexy.

I heard the Superfly soundtrack in 1994 in a record store AFTER hearing Doggystyle, which used "Give Me Your Love" on the Bathtub skit, and "Eddie You Should Know Better" on the Sam Sneed skit before "Gz Up Hoes Down".

I think all of the songs on "Superfly" have been sampled in one way or another. Mary J. sampled "Give Me Your Love" for "I'm the Only Woman" from My Life. That's how I got to know about the song. I think Curtis was credited but I wasn't sure at first (she failed to credit Curtis for the sample in "Be Happy", I forget what the name the song was but it was clearly sampled; the song wasn't on "Superfly" tho).

Second only to Purple Rain as the best movie soundtrack ever.

I like both but i'll give shaft the nod because of the
excellent musicianship on it. Do your thing, ellie's theme, and soulville alone does it for me and isaac is my dude. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
