Love all these guys especially Bob, but have to admit a very special love for Buju's Untold Stories....I could go on an' on, the full has never been told. Also how you gonna miss out Sizzla "I know that living with u baby, was sometimes hard...but I'm willing 2 give it another try.
Cause nothing compares....nothing compares 2 u!"

It's a shame reggae never really "buss" in America. My actual favorite part of reggae is dub from the roots era onwards. If you like electronic music, sampling, etc...it all starts here in the early 70s on the mixing board.
Dub masters: King Tubby Augustus Pablo L. Lindo (aka Jack Ruby) U-Roy Mad Professor Big Youth and the master of all Jamaican producers in my opinion Lee "Scratch" Perry, the Upsetter Ska/rocksteady era: Prince Buster Desmond Dekker Heptones Maytals Marley/Wailers (some solo exists for Marley this early) Jimmy Cliff Skatalites Roots rockers: Jacob "Killer" Miller and Inner Circle Gergory Isaacs Horace Andy Alton Ellis Peter Tosh Dancehall Old/New Sckool: Yellowman Chaka Demus and Pliers Lady Saw Beenie Man Ini Kamoze Tony Matterhorn Lover's rock: Maxi Priest (nephew of Jacob Miller) Early (late 60s-mid 70s) "Americianzied" reagge: Johnny Nash Stevie Wonder Led Zeppelin Dub poetry: Muataburuka Kiddus I (this guy's in Rockers and he's amazing) Anybody that wants a good overview of these genres should definately own the sound tracks to "The Harder They Come", "Rockers" (fantastic), and "Dancehall Queen". "Rockers" is an incredibly balanced soundtrack for the selection of what was going on back then in the roots reggae scene. [Edited 5/23/09 0:24am]

Joe Higgs...Trench Town's 1st huge star...how could I forget him?! This guy helped so many along the way (ie the Wailers, Tosh solo, and many more) to achieve their goals. Mr. Higgs was one of the 1st rasta recording stars (late 50s). Joe Higgs predates even the ska era back into mento. IOW, he's the closest you can get to ground zero for pretty much all the genres of Jamaican music that came later. [Edited 5/27/09 9:55am]

Is this thread about "dancehall-reggae" -- a specific genre of reggae -- or is it about reggae in general + dancehall-reggae?
Because if it's the former than allot of the artist mentioned (including Bob Marley) aren't actually dancehall-reggae artists: e.g. Pinchers, Super Cat, Bounty Killer, Cobra, Ninjaman, Buju Banton, etc.
