Supernova said: "Always & Forever"/Heatwave - the most overrated, overplayed, rote love song on Old School radio you'll find. It gets on my damn last nerve. Give me Heatwave's "Star Of A Story" over that schlock ANY day. Agreed! I am just SO SICK of this song. It's on every damn Old School love songs compilation, and the classic R&B stations treat it like it's the ultimate R&B song of all-time.I used to really dig this song, but after hearing it a thousand times,I've had enough. The entire song is sappy.I'm a huge Heatwave fan,but I prefer their other slow jams (especially "Happiness Togetherness") over this over-played staple. And yes,"Star Of A Story" is excellent too!

"Fire And Desire" is WAY overrated.Rick James is great and all,but his voice just isn't suited for dramatic ballads like this. And Teena goes overboard on this tune. It's like she's trying to show off EVERY note she knows. And as I said before, the lyrics are really bad.The entire song is overwrought, trying too hard to seek soulful drama.I agree with you,"Happy" is a better song.On that one,Rick and Teena don't "over-sing" and it's a much more effective song, imo.

Supernova said: Good thread. The reason we get so sick of these songs is because of NOSTALIGIA RADIO and the fact that it won't allow ANY new music. Nothing wrong with honoring the past, but not at the expense of new music - and please, nobody try and tell me there is no good new music. There is good music of every era no matter how bad it gets.
I dig your Post but Earth, wind&Fire Police is coming after YOU!!!"Reasons' just too Hear Him do it Live never gets Overplayed with Me.I dig "I'll write a Song for You" Alot but for me it's gotta be "Keep Your Head too the Sky" those Notes He Hits at the End brings a DAMN!DAMN!DAMN! Vibe out of me.as for"Thriller"Lady in My Life" is the track for me that got slept on&still dig Stanley Jordan's Version of it.Heatwave"Mind Blowing Decsions" is my cut.I like "always&forever" but mainly for Johnny WIlder's Vocals than anything else&the Time Period.I Agree with Gladys Knight's Version&the Pips.though Marvin's does have ah unting Effect for me."My Girl" is timeless IMHO.I agree on the other things You said all the way.Peace"I Heard It Through The Grapevine" - Marvin's version is wayyy too overplayed. I dig Gladys Knight & The Pips version much more. "Brick House"/Commodores - I used to like this song til the advent of Old School radio formats wore it the f@#$ out. LOVED how the rhythm section was so locked in on the intro, NOW...I won't allow myself to listen anymore. "Always & Forever"/Heatwave - the most overrated, overplayed, rote love song on Old School radio you'll find. It gets on my damn last nerve. Give me Heatwave's "Star Of A Story" over that schlock ANY day. "Superfreak"/Rick James - I think MC Hammer helped to ensure this song's death. "Do You Feel Like I Do"/"Baby I Love Your Way"/Peter Frampton - from the most successful live album of all time, Frampton Comes Alive. I got no beef with Frampton, in fact I like the guy. I even like the studio version of "Do You Feel Like I Do?" but I'm sick to death of Classic Rock radio's 26+ year saturation of these songs into the airwaves. And the latter song gave Will To Power a reason to BE. "Black Dog"/Led Zeppelin - Zoso was their best album til radio slobbered all over its knob for 30+ years. EVERY SINGLE from Thriller (except "Human Nature"). EVERY SONG by Lynard Skynard. "I Got You" aka "I Feel Good"/James Brown - JB, you are THE DADDY, but that one's grooves are worn. "After The Love Has Gone"/EW&F - their most palatable ballad, but not close to being one of their best. "Reasons"/EW&F - yeah, I said it. Way too overplayed, way too overwrought. If you want to hear Phillip Bailey's best vocal performance, check "I'll Write A Song For You." Many times emotive understatement can be more powerful than hammers. EVERYTHING by Rush. "My Girl"/The Temptations - nothing wrong with simple, sometimes that's the what a song should be. But some songs are a bit tooo simple. mistermaxxx
