hells that was great. thanks for posting. i loved it when she was a RAW talent (1982-Bedtime Stories) - her vocals on this clip alone were better than any moment of the S&S tour. She was so much better a vocalist when she wasn't trying to be a 'real singer' or whatever.

Does anyone remember hearing "Everybody" back in the day? The first Madonna song I ever heard was "Holiday" in the fall of 1983.Our local R&B station played it before the pop stations did. They also played "Lucky Star" and "Borderline".

They still play Borderline and Everybody on the Blue Eyed soul part of KMOJ here in Minenapolis..they played Human Nature when it was hot too at the time.

well, both songs are 80s R'n'B!

But did people really think she was black before they saw her? She comes closest to Anita Ward, but she doesn't really sound black. The music was.

Yeah, they played Physical Attraction and Everybody out here on the Rnb station KUTE. We all thought she was black. I got the album and here is this white punk-rock chick on the cover. I was blown away lol.

nod
It was a staple at house parties.
A lot of what are now considered 80's classics received little airplay but lots of club and house party play.

That's nearly all of early hip hop, rap, eletro "hits" were nowhere on the radio, but played to death at parties.
We HAD to buy the records or get mixtapes from our friends because radio was still only interested in "pop"
Funny thing is most of the cool 80's music we now hear and consider classics were underground music at the time.
Case in point "Holiday" by Madonna

Though I would put Bedtime Stories or Erotica above it, "Madonna" is still one of her very best if not most timeless/classic record, and in some ways "Everybody" is still her very best song. IMVHO "Music" is just a remake of "Everybody."

I had not problem with saying that her debut is her best. Its like her Controversy compared to her Like A Prayer's 1999. The debut is the 'essence' of Madonna. Her true roots.

How I hated the tinny-weak sound of the follow-up album, Like A Virgin.
