I think it got MTV Breakthrough Video status when it was new. He + Spike Jonze made some great vids. I have an urge to pull up Beastie Boys' Sabotage. That video is so, so, so '90s. Oh, no. I feel like I'm in a '90s snowball right now. lol

Ok, wow. 1) I didn't know he was Danish-American. He looks so ethnically-ambiguous. 2) I think it's great that his career didn't end in the '90s and he got new life. Kinda like Robyn did with her last album and went all indie-electropop. 3) Artists sure do have a life outside of the U.S. and I realize that more and more each year.

I liked this song when it came out. A friend of mine bought the album and swore that Lucas would be the thing of the future. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

I'm getting a bit nauseous. Christopher just asked me about Cantaloop BTW, this was back when American pop music was on this jazz kick. I actually love that jazzy hip hop hybrid sound. So I remember when I heard Christina Aguilera's Back To Basics a few years ago that shit sounded so stale and lateee (it didn't even sound like she was bringing something back, she just sounded mad late). I was like, LUCAS, US3, DIGABLE, etc. did this already. And better! Lucas, Us3, Digable Planets, ATCQ, Queen La's Black Reign, Janet's "Funky Big Band" etc. etc. All came out around that 1993-1994 period. Which I thought was great. Especially Queen Latifah's Black Reign album. That album is so warm to me. I can play it and feel like everything's going to be alright.

I think Lucas really wasn't trying to be Mr. Solo Artist or anything like that. Some people have the talent and are just so diverse musically they can jump in the booth and record vocals no problem and make a solo LP. I think Lucas did this and it probably what he was into at that time, maybe just to get a solo thing released, promote himself and he moved on to whatever else was in his head. He seems like someone who has a million ideas and a million ways to present them, so I wasn't surprised to read that Wiki passage about him still being current and on to something other.
