Vh1 Bringing Back "Divas Live"

http://blog.vh1.com/2009-...september/

April 20th, 2009
"Pop, R&B, and hip-hop are known for their strong female artists, women who have made an impact on both a musical and cultural level. Those kinds of singers abound right now, so it’s a perfect time for VH1 to revitalize its respected Divas show. The 2009 edition of the multi-artist presentation takes place at a perfect venue, the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House, on September 17. VH1 will air the show live. A new generation of participants will be on board, and performers, presenters, and special guests will be announced as they are confirmed.
The list of artists who have previously performed is tremendous. From Aretha Franklin to Debbie Harry to Joss Stone to Mariah Carey, an array of generations and perspectives has been presented. This year’s scope promises to just as wide. Producers have their eyes on strong women whose songs have brought joy, optimism and empowerment into the lives of listeners.
Further, they’d love for listeners to weigh in on who would make a great Divas participant. What does the term “diva” mean to you in 2009? Someone heroic? Someone inspiring? Hit the comments field and lets us know. We’re also open to suggestions: feel free to make a list of the artists you’d like to see perform on the show, as well as cast your opinion on which two singers would make a perfect “Diva Duet.”
Thanks for all this. Your participation will make this year’s edition of Divas that much more fun. Stay tuned for more information on the show. We’ll be posting it here in the blog."

I am sure Beyonce and Keyshia Cole will be on there somehow. I would love it if Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae and Winehouse were there.

As far as the Divas, why not have Etta James, Anita Baker, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Stevie Nicks, Ronnie Spector?

They need to do just all duets/trios/group numbers of the different artist's hits. They should think outside the box and do:

Estelle
Annie Lennox
Angie Stone
Chaka Khan
Mariah Carey
Gloria Estefan
Whitney Houston!!!!!
Lady Gaga
Robyn
The Emotions
Amy Winehouse
Lil Kim
Dolly Parton (Sing "jolene!")
Mary Davis
Tori Amos
Erykah Badu
T-Boz & Chilli
Lil Mama
The Trannycat Dolls
Jill Scott
Kelly Clarkson

And Naomi Campbell and Joan Rivers should co host

HOW KILLER WOULD THAT BE?!

All in all though - the best year ever was When Whitney, Brandy, Tina and Cher all did it. They can never top that lineup. I stopped watching after that - the Diana Ross mess was awful.

The Diana Ross one was brilliant because the entire show ran on a lot of errors. lol If you've seen the unedited version aired by VH-1, you can tell how crappy the show really was. Even Miss Ross spreading her arms didn't help matters, matter of fact when she did it that one time, the mic screeched! lol

I agree that the second one was the BEST one. The first one, only thing I remember was Aretha sing-screaming at EVERYBODY to shut the fuck up. lol

The Emotions are not divas. Most people barely remember them.Jody Watley and Nancy Wilson should be on.

So can Melba Moore and I don't see anyone asking her to go to Divas.

Lawd, if they could get Lena Horne...

I didn't wanna say anything but yeah that's exactly what I thought. The Emotions are nobodies but yet people know Lena Horne. They wouldn't know Lena from Kelly of Destiny's Child...unfortunate as it is. Girl hasn't been performing for 15 years, no way in hell would she want to come back. Let her enjoy her much-needed retirement.

Aretha just outsung everybody and everybody that tried to dare sing, Aretha would wail at them with her vocals (i.e. "Natural Woman").

LOL! I'd pay good money to see that!!!

I think Etta James would be a good choice for this event, though, regardless of whether she'd agree to appear with Beyonce.

The Divas live has always been corny to me. confused

Vh1 should stop with all the we need ratings antics and start showcasing artist.

Do live shows with the new Divas, those old chicks had there chance lol

They should do live shows with Lady Gaga, Ciara, Corinne Bailey Rae, Joss Stone ,Estelle, and the rest of them so we can see where we are going instead going back to the old era we need to see the Furture.

I only liked and watched the Diana Ross one because Donna Summer was a part of it. I guesss she was supposed to have a bigger part, too, singing with Mariah and Diana doing old Sumpremes songs but maybe she diva'ed out. I like Diana but it was not her best night, If anything, it proved that it should have been a night for Donna!

I think the last showed just how lazy the producers got. It was for Areatha, which is great but I think the only other diva might have been Jill Scott, who's great but it was her and some guys (Kid Rock and a few others). It was a fucking mess! They need to make it a Diva's, not a fucking free for all!

I remember being very disappointed with that show boxed After a bunch of weak performances,I thought that Whitney was gonna come out onstage and show everybody how it's done, but her performance was weak, too!

I stopped watching after that - the Diana Ross mess was awful.

The Diana Ross special was the best one.I've waited YEARS to see Diana Ross and Donna Summer on the same stage together. It's a shame they didn't collaborate back in the 70s,it would have been amazing!
