It's unfortunate but the younger generation only knows the Isleys for their slow jams like "Between The Sheets" and "Contagious".They don't realize that, back in the day,the Isley Brothers were a top-notch FUNK band. I've loved pretty much everything i've heard from them, excluding the new stuff. I don't care for it either (Well I like Downlow and Contagious, but that it's).
I don't like their newer stuff, either.I hated that whole "Mr.Biggs" nonsense Not interested in those albums.

Me too. Anything past 1983 is off limits from now on. Besides, after 'Between The Sheets',it wasn't the same band anyway.Three members left to form Isley-Jasper-Isley.Recent albums only feature Ronald and Ernie.

Did you mean this one?, It's Your Thing: The Story of the Isley Brothers If that's the one, just note that some of the "hits" on here are live studio versions, rather than the regular studio cuts-- apparently they were putting together a live studio album around 1980, but it got shelved, so they included a couple of those here. It's great for those who already have the discs and want some rare live versions, but if someone just got the box set expecting to get all those radio hits in one place--well their face is gonna be kinda tight, lol! For example, cuts like "Groove With You", "Voyage to Atlantis", and "Don't Say Goodnight" are the 1980 "live in the studio" versions..... ... [Edited 4/29/09 5:34am] I saw that in a used CD store once. I debated on whether or not to get it because I already have so much Isleys as it is. A couple of days later, it was gone when I went back to get it.

I loooove The Isley Brothers. My favorite song by them is "Carvan of Love". It's one of those feel good kind of songs:

I was thinking either I should get "The Heat Is On" or maybe just buy a few compliaton/greatest hits cd's, but i'm not sure.
'The Heat Is On' is considered their masterpiece, but I'm gonna recommend that you get their 1976 'Harvest For The World' CD next I bought the remaster a few years ago and it is superb.....a strong, consistent album filled with good songs! The title track is one of their most inspired songs (excellent lyrics and message) and the album also includes the slow jam "At Your Best (You Are Love)",which was covered by Aaliyah in the 90s.That's two great tracks right there, but the album also includes "Who Loves You Better","People Of Today" and "You Still Feel The Need".Really, every song is great. Thx, I will check it out! "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ

You can thank Shitney Houston for that. After her, R&B stations with a "soft soul" format (translation: black adult contemporary) started popping up. I don't remember even one station like this in my area before her. Before her, if you couldn't throwdown, then you sat down. Well, hell what could the stations do though besides come up with a soft soul format? The only thing that existed after her was black adult contemporary and shit hop and you know the adults didn't want to hear shit hop. Andy is a four letter word.

I definately want this CD because these two albums are the only ones I don't have from the "3 + 3" era through the "Between The Sheets" era. I have the 45s "Inside You" and "The Real Deal" but I want to hear those other album tracks. I'm glad they put those particular two albums together. That was just luck. 'The Real Deal' takes the Isleys in a whole new direction. It's slick,electronic,synth-heavy funk.Similiar to what other R&B artists and bands were doing at the time.If you like the title track, you will like the other songs too.

the liner notes for this album are very interesting...
It seems that, after the 'Winners Take All' album (1979),the band were on the verge of breaking up.The younger members (Chris Jasper,Ernie Isley and Marvin Isley) were planning to form a trio, which they eventually did in 1984.Chris came up with six tracks for this project (to be known as Isley Jasper Isley) and an album was planned for 1980.However,they patched things up with the older members and decided to stick around for a few more albums. So,what would have been the debut album for Isley Jasper Isley instead became the next Isleys Brothers album 'Go All The Way'.It contains five of Chris' songs (a sixth song,"Pass It On",was written by Ernie).Released in 1980,the album contains the hits "Here We Go Again" and "Don't Say Goodnight (It's Time For Love)",which reached Number One on the R&B charts.

After listening to all these albums,I am now ready to call 'Go For Your Guns' my favorite Isleys Brothers album. With two amazing funk jams ("The Pride" and "Living In The Life") and two mindblowing slow jams ("Footsteps In The Dark" and "Voyage To Atlantis"),there is no doubt that this is their strongest album.Oddly enough,it's one of their few albums that hasn't been remastered yet.

I love this album. Besides who's that lady and summer breeze, i like what it comes down to, sunshine go away, and highways of my life. I noticed you said the band was going in a different direction on the Real Deal. Were they trying to keep pace with lakeside, the barkays, cameo, etc? I've always been interested in hearing the Real Deal and Inside You. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Had a look at the Isley's discography and there's another album called "Timeless", which hasn't been digitally remastered/released onto CD yet (to my knowledge) so I'm guessing this is 'cause it's a compilation of songs from other Isley Bros albums.

I love that tune...although....as I've said before, I'll proably get my Funk pass revoked, but I actually like Wham's version of this song better than the original, I just never liked that galloping percussion in the original... ...
