King's X XV and Dug Pinnick's Strum Sum Up Pronounced "Ex-Vee",
this top pick from 2008 just keeps sounding better. I just busted it out to get revved for the band's Spring/Summer tour. Hard rocking guitar and top-drawer harmonizing. Great vocals all around. Fave tunes are "Pray" "Rock Ship" "Move" and "Go Tell Somebody", but the album holds together from beginning to end. If you like soulful vocals and hard rockin' guitar riffs the you can't go wrong. Dug's featured on guitar, but his vocal prowess is still front and center. Some tunes split Pt1 and Pt2 to allow extended jamming and it's great to hear Dug dig in and the vocals are the best out there. "Ex-Vee" has been in my car changer since its release.
The Alright/Broke/I Just Want To Live sequence gets looped a lot. I did a gig with Dave Henning (played bass on a great deal of Strum Sum Up) a few months ago. Converted him into a Lewis Taylor junkie. Pretty sure i'll make The Key Club gig. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

http://www.imeem.com/mlin...mmerland/# Oh not much... ...just about 11 albums (counting the current release). And two before (Summerland appearing on their 2nd, Gretchen Goes To Nebraska)... tA Tribal Disorder "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. http://www.imeem.com/mlin...mmerland/# A whole career of recording and concerts. I've seen 'em nonstop since 2000 whenever they toured and posted about their last two albums Ogre Tones and XV. Both are 4 star quality. test

Yeah Neal I'm really developing an apppreciation for Ty as a guitarist. Very economical, not flashy and still comes up with neat riffs. test

Ty is one the best in his field as far as I'm concearned. Tasty and has one of the coolest tones me thinks. I have loved KX since Gretchen and have stated so many times around here. It's criminal they are not wildly popular but whatever. Those who know, know. They were doing the heavy drop D thing way before most groups. I haven't seen that live DVD thing either. How is it? Any bonus material? Interviews?. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Hey, good to see there are some other King's X lovers in here!
Still one of the most criminally underrated bands ever. Altough I must admit I dont own all of their (individual members) albums, and I am not really impressed by their latest work, in general i think its a great band that is way overlooked. Why? To name a few reasons: Their originality: low-tuned guitar-riffs, combined with beatlesque harmonies, and slices of funk, soul and prog-rock. Their innovativeness: Soundgarden scored a huge hit with Black Hole Sun, but the combination of grungy rock and a psychedelic melody was tested years before by King's X (listen to Pleiades for example). Their tightness as band: both on record and live. My favourite albums by them: - Gretchen goes to Nebraska: still their masterpiece, I think. - Faith, Hope, Love: a bit more uneven, but great for 'Its Love' alone allready - Ear Candy: their most poppy, catchy effort, a handfull of great songs on it - Groove Machine: Their come-back album

I've always loved his recorded sound but the last time I heard him live he was sounding a bit too solid-state. Ended up reading somewhere that he's been sending the "speaker simulated line out" from his Egnater amps to the main mixer and that's what ends up coming from the PA. If that's true, it would explain the rather brittle sound I heard. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. It's just from when GRETCHEN was out so they only had two albums worth but they rocked it hard. THis is a bootleg that got married to a FM broadcast and it sounds good except for two songs that were too muffled to clean-up. the bonus is the best fix onthose two tunes. The freakin' LOndon crowd is wild for'em. highly recommended. test
