Lights Out: San Francisco

"Voco Presents the Soul of the Bay Area"

I came across this LP not long ago, and pretty much laugh, and knew it was just another comp I'd probably add to the compilation scrap pile. The artist listed will always grab my attention on a solo efforts.. Names like, John Lee Hooker, Neal Schon, Emilio Castillo , Skip Mesquite , Steve Kupka, Ron Beck, Francis Rocco Prestia, Greg Adams, James Fulton, Mic Gillette, David Garibaldi, Richard Stevens, Brent Byars, Raul Matute, Greg Errico, Sylvester, Harvey Mason, Clifford Coulter, The Pointer Sisters, Lydia Pense.

I drop the needle on the first cut which features John Lee Hooker called 'Lights Out' a blues rock groove with some slide guitar and Hammond, my first thought was not bad, there's one good cut at least.

The second cut 'Voco' a nice jazzy tune which features Clifford Coulter on the pi-annee lol, oragn, and guitar along w/Ron Beck... I thought.. well there's two cool cuts, if I get two more my four dollars were well spent smile.

The third cut 'Mahdi' (The Expected One)' by TOP... need I say more, a cool instrumental jam.

The fourth cut 'Cleo's Back' A cover of Jr. Walker & The Allstars - Celo's Back..."I got my four dollars worth". this is a blistering funky cover performed by TOP.. .

The fifth cut 'Love To Do It' a nice cut featuring Jo Baker, Rick Stevens, Linda Tillery of The Loading Zone, also Lydia Pense and Raul Matute of Cold Blood w/TOP.

The sixth cut 'Dead' features TOP w/Lydia Pense on vocals.. again not bad for four dollars.

The seventh cut 'Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye' featuring Sylvester, Greg Errico nod of Sly & The Family Stone on drums, Neal Schon of Journey on axe, Karey Hatch on bass and Sylvester on vocals and piano not bad at all.

The eighth cut 'Why Was I Born?' features the same players on the seventh cut along w/The Pointer Sisters on vocals... psychedelic groove

The ninth cut 'Brother Antrainik' is Middle Eastern psychedelic flavored flower power...Sitar, finger cymbals Zils, Oud, Goblet Drum

The tenth cut 'Dina' another Middle Eastern psychdelic cut

The eleventh cut '20/20 Vision' a folk, hippie cut ....

This is not a bad LP if you can find it cheap, get it.. it was released on the Blue Thumb label in '72.

cool
