i think Better In Time is one of the best pop records in the last couple of years. i agree she's bland in character, but i don't think it's harmful to have a pretty voice like hers around.

[Edited 4/25/09 23:51pm] I agree. She bores to death. Did she do anything interesting besides having that hit song? Has she a personality at all? I don't think she was being positioned to be a hitmaker for a young, hip demographic. It seems more like she was filling the void left on the adult contempoary/MOR charts since Celine was doing her Roman palladium circus stint in Vegas, Mariah is stuck in her whisper-sing everything like a Bone-Thugs rap mode, and well, we were waiting on Whitney to dry out, come off the crack pipe and get new dentures. There is no heir apparent for the genre, and whether she makes waves in pop probably won't mean much. She's going to be one of those girls who sings timeless power ballads in evening gowns, appears on public television galas honoring god knows who, and has way too many songs that everyone and their mother thinks should be played at their cousin's wedding as the love anthem... ...done...hardly...just not most people's taste under 40
