Did Beyonce Put Ashanti's Career In Its Coffin? I just thought about. Ashanti was the reigning R&B female who ruled 2002. A year later, both she and Beyonce were releasing albums a week a part from one another. Beyonce's, as we all know, stole her thunder and became to be a huge success, which culminated in her winning 5 Grammys the following year. All of a sudden, Ashanti was left in the cold and she's been flopping ever since.
Did Beyonce ruin her career?

I doubt it. Murder Inc put her career in the coffin. She kept hanging around when the company fluctuated. Now no one wants nothing to do with her. But I kinda pictured this would happen. They gave that girl too much credit in 2002. When Ja Rule or Irv Gotti labeled her "the princess of hip-hop and R&B" I said "she ain't going to last" since it wasn't as if she dropped "What's the 411" unexpectedly plus she didn't have Mary J.-styled vocals though for some odd reason, they kept comparing them. When Beyonce came, people moved on to her and didn't really look back. That's as best as I can describe it.

I would say Ashanti's voice was the perpetrator.

Her dancing was an accomplice in the crime.

I would think the fact that this girl can't sing is the real culprit She is talentless and I'm sure that her affair with Gotti, which didn't end great, had an little something to do with it as well.

I dislike Beyonce as much as the next lover of good music, but it is ridiculous how she gets blamed for both the Fall of the Roman Empire and the all that ails the record biz. Start singing a new tune, people. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Her dancing was an accomplice in the crime. and her personality and laugh wrote the note [Edited 4/21/09 16:59pm] "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Ashanti's body and Legs would put Beyonce in a coffin "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Nope. I think that it was Ashanti's weak voice plus her lack of stage presence that ultimately did her in. She was trumpeted as this hot new R&B princess, and while she was and still is quite attractive, her actual talent did not live up to her hype. Beyonce was already much bigger than her before she went solo, and by the time Alicia Keys put out her second album, it was pretty much over for her because the public didn't need a pretty but marginally talented singer.

Not that I keep up with either of them but I'm sure it woulda been widely reported if they got married, especially since they were being billed as the po' man's Jay and Bey.

Right. They've just been in a relationship for a while but I was under the perception they were married already.
