Lady all day!! Never liked "She's Out of My Life"....ewww. Now "Lady.." vs "Liberian Girl" is a tougher choice for me. The vocals on "Lady" are more believable imo, but the harmonies and music on "Liberian Girl" stay with you. Sorry I went off-topic as per usual biggrin

Lady In My Life is the one I sing in the shower. That or We Are The World, or China Girl.

David Bowie's "China Girl"?

Perhaps the vocal delivery reminds the iggy pop version more.

She's out of my life has rawness in it - including the much maligned sobbing and voice cracking at the end.

But with Lady in my life - you can't beat it (pardon the pun). The arrangement is perfection, the vocals sublime, and those final adlibs just give warmth to the track that takes it to another level.

The Lady in my Life along with Human Nature were my favourite songs off Thriller.
She's out of My Life is great too, but no where as soulful Lady.

With that said I gotta go with Lady in my life. It's been sampled a few other times as well.

In a way though, Michael's "Lady in My Life" is much like The Isley Brothers' "Between the Sheets". On its own, a great soulful mid-tempo groove, as a hip-hop sample, it's automatically part of its lexicon. But I dare any hip-hopper to remake that with INSTRUMENTS and then see how it comes out. razz

I would have to say Lady in My Lif. But, if it was me I would ask: Lady in My Life vs. I Can't Help It.

Those are the two that really get me going.

Yeah, that's a real battle.

I would probably pick "I Can't Help It" on that one.

Well I can see this isn't going to be the most popular answer around here but here goes...razz

I couldn't stand Lady In My Life! That was always the most annoying MJ song to me! It got on my damn nerves, like nails raking across a chalkboard and for a while I just couldn't escape it because every R&B station I would listen to back in the day, would just wear that song out! I'd pick She's Out Of My Life over it, any day!
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Definitely "Lady In My Life"! "She's Out Of My Life" is okay, but a bit too sappy. The song is unintentionally funny for me. I hardly listen to it. It's one of my least played MJ tracks "but "Lady" is everything love. I think it's probably his best slow jam and the ad-libs are killer. I never get tired of this song.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Has anyone ever noticed that when MJ sings in the song "Lady in My Life": "Gonna love you more each day", it sounds like he's singing: "Gonna love you Morris Day?" I crack up now every time I hear MJ singing that line. lol It sounds like MJ is professing his love for Morris or something. lol lol

Back in 1983,one of the DJs on our local R&B station noticed that too lol So one day,he played this song and when it got to that part,he played it in a continuous loop....

gonna love you more each day.....gonna love you more each day.....gonna love you more each day

Then he laughed and said "We're sure that Michael means that he loves Morris in a friendly way"...lol...

Haha, never thought of that but I hear it. Lady In My Life gets my vote easily but I do enjoy She's Out Of My Life simply because it's a great song to play with a Fender Rhodes sound that is in my Motif XS.

Although I have heard this song like a bazillion times (no joke I counted them all) I never noticed how half of the song is just MJ ad libing and as Quincy said "laying it on the line man".

Listen again from 2:40 it's just Michael in the moment, in one take, just feeling the song giving everything from jazz runs to heartfelt pleas.

This is why the song is such a great track.
