I absolutely love that guy!

I have his self-titled album from '78 on CD (Japanese import). I'm probably going to hunt for an LP copy at some point, but since it's a $200+ album I haven't gotten around to it yet smile
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

The whole album is great. There's one weak track, that's it.

I'm listening to "I Surrender" on the Tube at the moment. Liking it! smile

Another album I gotta mention (which I actually got around to purchasing quite recently, for around 200$) is "Indebted To You" by Chain Reaction. As I recall, the groups was New York based, but the album never got a US release, just a European pressing.

Here's the only track off the album that has been posted on the Tube,

Never Lose, Never Win

Now this is a track Funkenstein will love. It's by a group called Zingara, produced by Lamont Dozier. The album was released in 1981 and is pretty rare, but once in a while it pops up. I'll definitely play this track on the show tonight.

Zingara - Haunted House

Here are some more Zingara tracks. James Ingram was part of this band, and you can hear him clearly on lead in their tracks :

Love's Calling : http://www.youtube.com/wa...y0_pBPPfTY

I Surrender : http://www.youtube.com/wa...8bKTVJFWJI

The Zingara album was briefly reissued on cd by the Castle label in the UK. Even that reissue has become an expensive item.
Other samples of the album can be heard in the link : http://www.amazon.com/Zin...438&sr=1-1

Lamont also produced an album for the group Future Flight around the same year, on Capitol Records :

Hip-Notic Lady : http://www.youtube.com/wa...irKQ89QtCM

You Should've Been There : http://www.youtube.com/wa...oU8AoLX5PM

Nite People : http://www.youtube.com/wa...7lwCSDh6jk

Toshiba Japan reissued it on cd some years ago :

LOL,
memories, I was just a kid when i first heard these, didn't know what to make of them then, especially coming across Blowfly's rap.

Pretty cool, but all i keep seeing in my head is C.H.I.P.S. Love American Style and The Love Boat,.... The Six Million Dollar Man..
Its funny what memories can trigger.

I think it's a great record. But I would not spend $150 either. Like I said, I found it for a tenner (with five more mint copies in the same box, which I should have bought in hindsight).

It's weird, sometimes a record get's really hot in the scene and the price goes up. Last year, these two 45s suddenly got a lot of play, and now you won't find them for under $100.

Yeah, the Date with the Rain 45 on Tamla is tough to find these days. It's a really strange release. As you know, the song is on Kendrick's 1972 release My People. But it never came out as a single until four years later, when it ended up as the B-side for the 1976 release Born again. Back then, it was really odd to put a four years old song on the backside of a brand new single.

Of course nobody cares about Born again, which is why people usually refer to the release as the Date with the Rain single. smile
