Well if its a chain store it will be closing because they all will soon be gone, if its a mom and pop, same difference. But for the most part, instead of asking why the store can charge it or has to charge it, ask WHY they are, which resorts back to the label, labels charge a store 13+dollars per new cd, and a store has to make a profit because of things like rent, electricity, employees etc... As much as peeps want prices to go down and blame the stores, and of course labels dont help the stores out, the price of the wholesale cd has gone up almost 2 dollars in 3 years, the biggest rise yet in music history.

There aren't many chain music stores left. I usually end up buying my music at Target, Walmart or Best Buy. There are a few small, independent cd stores in my area and I try to patronize them. I do have issues with 2 of the stores. One is called Bill's Records. They are known all over the world, but the place is a smoke-den. Every time you walk in the store, you walk out smelling like an ash tray. His selection is HUGE, but he has NO prices on anything. You have to walk up to the counter and ask the price. It is rumored that the owner has flirted with the guys and has molested many young children. So, I don't go to his store much.

Another store is called Forever Young Records. They have a good selection also, but they are really proud of their stuff. If an album is out of print, they charge between $10 to $50 (or more) for the lp. For 12in singles they run between $10 and $25. As for the rare cds, they charge $40 a piece for them. Even for stuff that isn't rare, they want $40. So, I only go there when I only go there if I'm looking for a new release. My problem with this store is that the staff is full of idiots. There are only a couple of knowledgeable guys that work there. The rest are idiots.

NYC is slowly being left with nothing, thank god Record Runner is hanging on and Rebel Rebel is cool, they both specialize in vinyl, imports,cd singles etc..new and old, just dont go in their expecting to get the new Lil Wayne, they will laugh at you, they dont stock shit. I stay away from Other Music, which has a good following, i just fucking hate them for the same reason you hate that staff. Norms is also cool, but its mmore of a used cd store, but they are cool if you want a new release about 5-6 days early. NOT BOOTLEGS real shit

There use to be a music store in town, and they were there forever,my Dad use to buy vinyl, and 8 track tapes there when he was younger, and they were great! they had everything, imports,DVD's,CD's,and if they did'nt have it,they would order it for you,but you only paid the price that you would if it was in the store, which was around the $10-$12 range, unless it was a box set of something special. They were called Hayes Music. Then the owner had to shut it down because she was sick, and really old. sad The new place Dig Music, they have an okay selection, they have vinyl, and will special order, but I think from now on I will be checking Walmart before I go back to this place.I bought 3 CD's,and that cost me $50,and one was used. eek

OMG, you would have done better by hitting up Amazon or ebay.

Have you thought about joining yourmusic.com? It is like the old BMG Music club, but you pay $7 per month and get one cd. If you want to purchase boxed sets, they sell them at $7 per cd (for instance if it's a 3cd set, the price would be $21). I've been a memeber for a while. I find it an easy way to get new music. The major drawback is that they only feature Universal and Capital artists. You won't find Beyonce or Prince on there. It's cool because it's not a club and you're not trapped into buying so many cds. I love it. Especially to get cds i'm in no hurry to get. Or to get the boxed sets I've been wanting at a decent price.
