Update on "Unsung": Vote for the acts you wanna see!

http://www.tvoneonline.co...02&id=2348

You can vote for Zapp vs. the Gap band, Melba Moore vs Minnie Riperton, Shalamar vs The O'Jays and Flo Ballard vs that asshole Bobby Womack.

Flo's likely will be the first one followed by Minnie.

I think Minnie's story was like Donny's in a way: a talented musician that faded too soon in different circumstances.

I never seen an interview by Minnie's husband on the matter of her death so her story should be interesting, plus I don't think too many knew of what she did prior to meeting Stevie Wonder and recording "Loving You" and her collaborations with Leon Ware.

Leon Ware was one of Motown's most successful songwriters of the 1970s. He and Diana Ross' brother Arthur co-wrote "I Wanna Be Where You Are" for MJ and "I Want You" for Marvin. Leon moved into his own career with 1976's Musical Massage following the release of I Want You. Around 1975, he also began working with Minnie on the track "Inside My Love". Rumor has it Minnie was the girl who moaned on Marvin's album. On Musical Massage in certain tracks, you can definitely hear Minnie back Leon up with her vocals especially in the song "Comfort" (AKA Marvin's "Come Live With Me Angel" redone in Leon's own version). Leon has continued his career despite not receiving a lot of accolades for his own music.

I voted for Minnie Riperton again. wink

Riperton as a teenager (mid/late 60's) recorded with several "girl groups" throughout the 60's and recorded as a member of Rotary Connection for Chess Records. I was blessed to have seen her in 1970 debut her brilliant album "Come To My Garden" at Chicago's London House. iTunes has the compilations album from her Chess years, check-it-out cause it's a diamond in the ruff. If you want Cd/digital download of "Come Into My Garden" is at Amazon only. http://www.amazon.com/Com...B000063BNX

As far as the circumstances of her death. Riperton told Flip Wilson on The Tonight Show that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and undergone a mastectomy. I don't recall her telling Mr. Wilson that night that her cancer had already spread but it had. Several weeks before her death Riperton gave an interview to Chicago radio station WBMX and she was up beat and philosophical but she knew she wasn't going to make it. sad

Timmy who influenced who... Leon Ware - Marvin Gaye or Marvin Gaye - Leon Ware?
Didn't get a chance to finish my thought. Mr. Ware's albums "Musical Message" and "Moon Ride" just ooz Gaye's sound.

The O'Jays are a curious choice. With exception of the groups line up changes and the death of founding member William Powell at a young age, The O'Jays don't appear to fit "Unsung" criteria. Maybe they know somethings we don't.

I think they are reaching. There are far better choices than the O'Jays. The Sylvers should be on there.

Yea they are: I wonder if the producers of "Unsung" have been turned down by some artist and/or groups ? You gotta talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly and I'm going to assume some artist/musician's may be unwilling or a least hesitant to put their business out in the "streets" or rehash old memories, problems and issues. I would love for The Sylvers to do the show tho, fingers crossed at some point they shall.

I don't necessarily think they have to have the artist's permission to do their story. I would love to see one on Ruth Brown and Etta.

No, you don't have to have the artist's permission nor have them participate: "Unsung" appears to be taking the rout (when they can) to have the artist -musician's along with family and friends tell their own story. So far the show hasn't soft pedaled anyone. I just wouldn't be surprised if the family and friends of artist who've past have demurred "Unsung" request.[/i].

Etta, if they ask her, she'll do it. She's like Bobby W. she's forthright and straight-up. Let the chips fall where they may.... lol
