But you see this is what happens when somebody hypes you to be more than what you are. And now it's like every female in R&B music gotta either be Mary J., Janet or Beyonce or they're nothing.

She basically murdered her own career (pun intended)
Talentless whore! | |

Now wait a minute. Don't go putting Mary J in with those other talentless girls. I believe Mary J is the last of the divas, no matter what kind of foolishness Beyonce is telling herself. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Who is? I'm just saying that there's people trying to be Mary but they're missing the mark. [Edited 4/21/09 19:47pm]

Like others have said,Ashanti is nothing more than a pretty face. She has no stage presence at all. When she first came on the scene, they made a big deal about the fact that she writes her own lyrics, but come on....her lyrics aren't very deep or groundbreaking! On one of her songs, she repeats the phrase "Aww baby" over and over. She doesn't have what it takes to hold people's attention.

Ashanti is one of the few contemporary R&B singers that has actually improved. Its "too little; too late" but I will give her credit where its due. The site vets know I couldn't stand this chick's voice and was pissed that everybody seemed to be giving her all of those unwarranted props she got when she first dropped. I actually stopped watching the Soul Train Awards because they gave her a "Lady Of Soul" award. I think something happened after she sang the National Anthem. Something seemed to inspire her to get better after that performance. She went from just a little above Cassie to marginally decent. Of course, like Rob and Fab from Milli Vanilli, once the general public says "you suck" its hard to prove that you don't suck as much as they think you do. Her biggest problem was that she was underdeveloped and she had dudes around her who didn't have talent themselves nor did they know what to do with talent. Her whole label was of the hype mindset, so they just wanted her to "fake it till you make it" when they should have been encouraging her to do better and develop her voice. I think Murder Inc going under was the best thing that happened to Ashanti.
Why do people think Beyoncé can't sing? Are you people deaf? I guess pop hate makes you despise a person and by default everything they do. Oh, by the way...Beyoncé wouldn't put Ashanti's career in a coffin...Matthew Knowles would.
