Never said carbon copy. The phrasing of the lead vocal and chord progression are too similar to not hear it. But it's what I hear, maybe not some others. They were big fans of Prince though. TLC even did a cover of "Get It Up" from the first Time album.

nod They also did a cover of "If I Was UR Girlfriend" on 'CrazySexyCool'...great cover too.

Being that this is a Prince fan site, I'm surprised no one one else heard this song as a complete rip of Anna Stesia. The melodies are too close to ignore. Plus they're all huge Prince fans. Especially producer Dallas Austin.

They really sound nothing alike.

Their version of If I Was Your Girlfriend is off the hook though. They rocked that shit.

Crazysexycool was my first CD ever that belonged to me. If I had anything before that, it was on record or on cassette. The CD's we did have at the time were greatest hits compilations and recent hits my family owned.

Definitely a classic, I loved TLC so much back in the day.

Does Paul McCartney get songwriting credit on this one?

It kind of reminds me we're all getting old when it seemed like just yesterday that TLC looked like little babies and I was enjoying them as a preteen. All the r&b/hip hop artists I liked as a teenager are approaching 40. I know that's not really old, but it reminds me that I'm approaching 30 in several years.

Wait, Paul McCartney should have got writing credit now? I thought Wendy And Lisa still got credit for having (almost) the same title.

I dunno. It was more of a question than a statement. He has a song Waterfalls that starts with almost the exact same phrase as the chorus. Musically, not similar at all.
