There are some critics who absolutely hate Mimi primarily based on the musical direction she has chosen over the past 12 years so there is nothing she can do to please them. While I agree Mariah is really not cut out for acting, I've heard mostly positive feedback for "Tennesee" so I'm not going to base my feelings on the film on what one critic is saying. If that is true....can the Org get a screening?
Say what you will about Madonna but did she ever make anything so notorious and big that it had people celebrating it's awfulness (and rapid fans defending it on it's music!). She's made a lot of bad movies but they almost get universally little to no attention anyway....and "Who's That Girl" was cute. That being said, the article rasies a valid point (several times and yet it is only three short paragraphs). Why is the movie being pushed back? It happens for various reasons other than the movie being awful but it's basically a gossip and not an entertainment article. Skimpy on details (what were the prior release dates, who owns movie, what songs from the new album have been tanking, etc.) but heavy on cattiness. I'm not a Mariah fan, but seriously, why can't anyone do good entertainment stories anymore? It's all about the drama and bullshit. Actually you probably have forgotten the movie Swept Away. That was hyped as Guy Ritchie's ode to his wife, and it was a disaster. In reality though, Madonna has been in a ton of movies. Most of her appearances were of a cameo or supporting role variety, but with the exception of Evita, most of the movies she has starred in have been really awful. But most of them were not actually her fault; it was usually a poorly written script, dumb storyline, or mismatched co-stars that tanked her films. As for Mariah's latest movie, most of the mainstream entertainment media have forgotten that this is an indie film, and part of the reasons for indie films getting their release date pushed back is because they have trouble locating a decent distributor. Slumdog Millionaire had the same issue, and it took a long time after its debut at the Sundance Film Festival to find a distributor who would even book limited screenings. Fortunately, the critics loved the movie, and it slowly but surely built a lot of buzz on its way to winning an Oscar for Best Picture. I remember "Swept Away" having buzz but not the type that "Glitter" had. While Madonna is not a good actress, I always thought it was terrible writing that hurt her more than acting. Seriously, you could have stuck Meryl Streep in some of those dogs and they wouldn't have done anything better (although you could also make the argument that if you put Meryl Streep in "Evita", it probably would have been better other than maybe the singing). Right about indie movies. "Slumdog Millionaire" almost went straight to video and even if it was great (haven't seen it yet), it would not have gotten any real attention from movie fans (have any straight to DVD movies?) and would have been not eligible for awards. Obviously that guy is a bit of a hack and was all about the bitchness.

With all due respect, are you on drugs? It was plot hole city, not to mention the often absurd leaps in believability (it was a fiction, but no science fiction), terrible character development (if any), the ending...Bad on some many levels! It wasn't just the bad acting (which went all around....Mariah was bad but in comparison to the male lead, she looked like a pro).

It wasn't. I actually enjoyed it to an extent I honestly believe Tommy Mottola had something to do with it's failure I remember at that time, there were rumors he stole some of her songs and gave them to Jennifer Lopez remember how he and Sony were hyping up his wife Thalia, saying she was going to be huge? She released 1 song and that was that [Edited 4/17/09 0:01am] Unless Tommy Mottola had anything to do with it's making, he had nothing to do with it's breaking! Mariah definately got her revenge if that is the case. She might not be killing career wise today, but what is Tommy up to? Shit, if he didn't have his money, he might be have been collecting unemployment for the last....7 years? He might have been a super hack....cause seriously, after Lindsey Lohan, which never set the world on fire (nor did Thaila), he hasn't been heard from as a musical force.

Yeah, I liked her in "Wise Girls," too. She should do more roles like that. I hear "Precious" is getting great reviews. Don't know much about "Tennessee" but it can't be any worse than "Obsession"(Beyonce's movie). I can tell from the previews that that is one baaaad movie. (It might be bad enough to actually be a fun rental but I sure wouldn't pay to see it lol) [Edited 4/19/09 22:43pm] "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."

Mega-bomb and defining Madge role that got her the first of five razzies. Sean Penn got a Razzie nomination for that film too. Sean Penn! I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

I agree And his "accent" was annoying as fuck ----- The soundtrack was a good old RnB record so of course it was going to be trashed by the critics. I find it interesting that no one will stop Madonna from acting and she is a millions times worst than Mariah.
