The video really shows Prince in a bad light, doesn't it? Around that time,he was getting alot of negative press for skipping "We Are The World",having his bodyguards beat up photographers, and his massive ego.

What album is this on? I can NEVER find this song. IT is not on any greatest hit Cd I have found. I guess it was a light hit. I heard this at this Atlanta club called MJQ and the dancefloor went crazy

Story was the Gap Band had seen Prince once and I think he had his bodyguards around him and they told the brothers to not approach Prince in any way, then when they heard he had turned down the offer to appear on "We Are the World", they got so mad they recorded the song in protest to Prince.

The song, although good, feels like it's missing something.... "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

It's from Gap Band VII, which is almost impossible to find on CD. However, you can get the song on their 2-CD Gold release: Amazon link "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

That's the best part! It's not even a complete song, just a great groove. "Lonely Like Me" is in the same vein. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Yeah,Prince was on a HUGE ego trip after 'Purple Rain'.I've heard stories like the one you posted above, but with Prince ignoring and pissing off other celebrities too.He would go to award shows and have his bodyguards tell the other artists not to speak to him.It was insane...lol...

He even pissed off Elizabeth Taylor back then She was a huge fan,sat in the front row at the 'Purple Rain' concert in L.A. but when she invited Prince to her house,he had the nerve to have his bodyguards "inspect" her home before he entered She angrily told him "Did you think I hired assassins?!" His ego and paranoid behavior was out of control

bboy87 said: ^ the lady up there is Dawn Silva (Brides Of Funkenstein) She recorded and toured with the Wilson Brothers during a part of the 80's. Funny how you can connect some dots between The Gap Band and P-Funk. The horn/scat-riff on "Oops Up Side Your Head" during the break, is originally from an intro on Parliament's album "Gloryhallastoopid". IIRC "Theme From The Black Hole".
