HELP! What are the most essentiel albums of the last 12 months?

You know, the albums that define the sound of 2008/09. Not necessarily what fits with your own taste. My votes go for:

Hard Candy - Madonna
Lady Ga Ga
Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Circus - Britney Spears
808s & Heartbreak - Kanye West

and what else?

It seems like 4ever that Hard Candy came out.

I would add LotusFlow3r to that list. Maybe even Jennifer Hudson's album.

I don't think LotusFlow3er could be christianed essentiell of defining. I even prefer Mpglstdjfk....!

HC was released almost one year ago... Now this time the first leaks mustave been coming.

To me, Lotus is. If for nothing that it is probably the biggest independent album of the year.

nod Very good album.

It is. I was pleasantly surprised. They really picked the right songs for her to shine through. She is definitely a bit over the top in her singing style (overall), but they managed to tone her down with songs like "Giving Myself To You". I really like it.

I'm gonna give it a try. Which music is it? Production-wise?

Mmmh, I hope it didn't sell just because of her mother and nephew.

Jennifer's album has the typical writers and producers of today (Ne-Yo, The Underdogs, Timbaland, etc).

This album was selling well before the death of her mother and nephew.

If you should name THE albums from 1965 I'd prefer Rubber Soul, some Rolling Stones, Supremes, Beach Boys because their music refelcted the era.

For 1983 I would name Thriller, 1999, some Madonna and other certain dance hits, Police...

And talking bout the last 12 months I certainly wouldn't say Paul McCartney's last album was defining or essentiell.

So to answer your question: Which album will be typical for 2008/09 in 20, 30 years?

Taylor Swift's 'Fearless.' Half a dozen top twenty hits, 11 weeks at number one (the longest running no.1 album of the decade), and the best seller of 2009 so far.

Also Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter,' the biggest seller of last year and the home of the ubiquitous "Lollipop."

I have no interest in either of these albums, but if you're looking to capture the musical zeitgeist of 2008/9, they have to be included.

I'm not really understanding either sad

like, in our opinion?
or what is popular?

not necessarily stuff
that I would listen to
but stuff that people have been
brainwashed into liking? confused

like... I'm not with the times lol
AT ALL.. I don't know what's hot
(as far as what billboard says
and unless it's one of my faves)
I straight up don't listen to that shit neutral
I haven't watched The Grammy's in YEARS
if I gave some of it a chance
I might feel otherwise

but I've just lost interest in the latest scene
so maybe this isn't the thread for me lol
*hides*

I guess the big lesson, or recurring topic of all Music:Non-Prince discussion is everyone listens to different stuff now. What defined 2008 isn't necessarily defined by radio, tv, magazines, blogs, Youtube, critics... etc

Go live in 2009, start today smile
